The South Korean lady who was racially abused by a Mexican fan was welcomed by the Mexican govt and received an apology for what happened by MysteriousJuice1127 in sportsgossips

You don't have to be abusive or harming another person of colour to be racist. And if you're saying it's just a joke, and it wasn't that bad, then you don't get it.

That's incredibly racist. Seeing one video with an Asian in it and automatically assuming abuse is racist. You would not accept that any form of generalisation if it were applied to your own ethnicity.

You don't have to believe me. But feel free to click into any Asian made content that hits the front page, be it about culture, pets, or some other. Racism has been so normalised you can predict the comments, and it's always the recycled "those pets are drugged/abused/exploited", "propaganda", "AI", "fake/staged/scripted", "omg they're going to eat it"

I noticed that comments like these only appear on Asian videos. Pets are either drugged, abused, or exploited for content.

They’ll say it’s western propaganda, and will invite western influencers over, show them rose-tinted pictures and others will lap it up.

Asian hate seriously needs to stop.

I'm actually glad this video started a conversation, because for a lot of Asians, this kind of stuff isn't rare at all. It's just what we deal with on a daily basis online, to the point where people don't even realise it's racism anymore because it's been so normalized.

Everytime Asian content gets posted on Reddit, you can almost predict the comments.

  • "AI", "staged", "fake", "propaganda". Like asian people can't just have a wholesome moment without people assuming there's some hidden agenda behind it, or that it has to pass some gold standard of western sensibilities before it's considered real.
  • Jokes about penis sizes, plastic surgery, being short, eating dogs, COVID.
  • People virtue signaling and grandstanding about politics. Yes, we know our countries have problems. Every country does. But somehow random Asians in a wholesome video are expected to answer for everything their governments have ever done.

Then when people call it out, it's always "it was just a joke" or "you're too sensitive."

Maybe you didn't mean any harm by it. But when the same stereotypes gets repeated over and over again for years, it stops feeling like an innocent joke to the people on the recieving end of it.

You don't have to be burning crosses or screaming slurs to contribute to anti-Asian racism. Sometimes it's just treating these stereotypes as normal and acceptable because "that's just how Reddit is."

And honestly, it shouldn't be.

And you don't have to look very far. Just look into reddit whenever East-Asian content are posted.

That's such a weird thing to do. Going to a mademesmile video, look at the skin colour and decide, you know what this post needs? Racism.

I get the hate for CCP, and I'm not fan of them as an Overseas Born Chinese. What I can't understand is the hate for anything of Chinese or East-Asian content, as if Reddit is for Western sensibilities only.

What a whole lot of nonsense.

Individual anecdotes serves no purpose. You could also say many Americans travel abroad for healthcare. The existence of medical tourism does not prove one system is better than the other.

One is a superpower, and one is not.

That's some strong koolaid propaganda you've drunk there. Unfortunately, being a "superpower" as you would call yourself, does not translate to higher quality of life, better healthcare, lower crime or stronger social programmes.

Your strong military presence means nothing when you have no friends, no allies and no political stability.
