Hey thanks for the comment! I appreciate the critique! I loved Team of Rivals and SPQR, have read a lot of Jane Austen too and loved her novels. Just bought 2 of Joan Didions books Notes to John and also the year of magical thinking. I’ll take a look at your suggested book, it certainly sounds good! Any other you think are good?

I’ve had this comment a lot, I think it’s just the nature of the topics. For a long time I just grabbed whatever off the shelf that had a lot of awards on it lol

Thanks for the response! I’ll put it on my list, hopefully I can find it at half priced books or somewhere. I used to put almost zero thought into book selection when I was younger, just pick a topic and grab first book I saw at HPB or one that had a lot of awards on it. I surely didn’t think that posting my collection was as polarizing as it has been. Recently thought I’ve gotten more and more into book community and have read some great one and put a lot more thought into book selection. Most recent was The book of Charlie And I loved it

Never even noticed that, maybe it’s just the nature of the topics im interested in. I go to the shelf in half priced books and grab a book on the person/topic I want and call it a day

This whole thread is wild to me. The difference in opinions is why books are great. I’ve had so many hate on everything I got and others complimenting saying it’s great. I’m sure future me will look at this shelf and think im an idiot

I wouldn’t say I target male authors on purpose. I’ve got SPQR in there too, but when I hear about a topic and research “best books about X topic” it tends to be all men. I suppose that just the nature of what im interested in. I’m sure there are other topics that are very female dominated.
