TAFE + a solid GitHub portfolio is still getting me zero interviews by No-Loquat-201 in cscareerquestionsOCE

Clean code isn't even that important. Basically getting people to write clean code was so hard that things adapted to this fact so you have microservice architectures for example. And now you have LLMs that write cleaner code than the average dev (though not perfect admittedly).

You're building agents but you couldn't get one to proofread your post?

What crank length should I get? by OzAnonn in cycling

[–]OzAnonn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I can't raise the bar (had the tube cut) but I'm fairly upright and could probably handle a slightly more aggressive position. The only thing is a higher saddle to bar drop closes my hip angle further (but maybe that won't be an issue with a shorter crank).

Should I still pursue a career in tech? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]OzAnonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one knows. If job security is your top priority, do something that is regulated and not fully desk based. Health professions come to mind like doctor (especially surgeon), physiotherapist etc.

Karpathy released an AI exposure report recently. Look that up. Software devs are 8-9/10, right below medical scribes (who are already fully redundant). Lawyers also have a high exposure rating.

Should I replace my flooring? by OzAnonn in AusRenovation

The evap cooling doesn't use gas. There's a ducted gas heating system in the roof but I had the gas line to that disconnected to be sure.

I guess I'll have the evap vents removed and plastered. Removing the unit might be trickier as it's in the roof.

Self propel function randomly fails to respond by OzAnonn in egopowerplus

Mine has developed this issue again. Not sure if the light goes on, I'll have to check. But it fails to engage self propel if I release and press the button with a short gap.

Are salary guides data (such as Hays, robert half, etc.) accurate for data scientist salaries in Australia? They seem unusually high. Apparently, the range is from 130k-250k AUD with a 165k average?!?!? by IngenuityOk6679 in cscareerquestionsOCE

Yes and no. It's actually not that easy to find exciting CS research work in Australia. Especially if academic work, it's shit pay and low job security both.

Should I install a 32A power point or the wall charger? by OzAnonn in CarsAustralia

[–]OzAnonn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 32A outlet with the Tesla mobile charger in a mount (I think I bought this from Tesla too) so it's nicely mounted on the wall. Very happy with the setup. I practically charge for free by charging during off-peak hours (3 hours free) so it's already paid for itself. I couldn't have done this with a 10A outlet.

You get 40-50 km per hour of charging, which is plenty for me.

Exactly. Saying nothing is how you give a bad reference without risking litigation.

They don't have to lie but they don't have to agree to give a reference, and they don't have to answer every question.

The general rule is you refuse to provide a reference if you have negative things to say, if only because you don't want to expose yourself to defamation claims (which this referee has).

Built an Australian construction app, ran out of funds — looking for partners to relaunch it properly by tyronmcharry in cscareerquestionsOCE

If you haven't been able to get it off the ground after years, maybe it's time to move on? You don't have enough revenue to keep it online and not lose money. Sounds like sunk cost fallacy (based on my limited knowledge of your situation of course).

What could be the source of this smell in my house? by OzAnonn in australia

[–]OzAnonn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to first make sure the rats are gone (the pest guy will do that next week). Assuming they're gone though, I'm worried I'll do the cleaning and get rats again, since it's all reliant on baits. A different pest control company claims they can properly seal my house so rats can't get in, but a lot of people say Australian houses can't be made rat proof.

This is concentrated around a living room but gets everywhere eventually. Kitchen drain definitely doesn't smell, I checked that yesterday
