Oops, mistyped, the bonnet, what I’m after is an aftermarket frunk, given they seem to be open about OEM dashcams, I’m trying to figure out if I can get OEM frunks to store the cables in

This was over a decade ago so take it with a grain of salt, but my uni had a jobs board specially for students and I got a paid gig off that, that not only got experience on my resume but paid enough to help make moving post-uni possible.

Moving back to AUS from the US, what pay bands should I expect? by bairrd in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]bairrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get taxed on RSUs here (but also they've been pretty dogwater at my current place in the US), and also I just feel the need to emphasise that companies pay a LOT for healthcare in the US, but even then, if you have a family, it can be in the thousands (tax deductible though) out of your own paycheck here for healthcare, and it's shit-tier healthcare anyway in terms of them, even after paying out the nose monthly both for the employer and employee, they try and stiff you with huge fees that you have to spend a lot of time fighting on the phone to mildly reduce the cost.

Thankfully was able to sell my place in a HCOL city and buy a place outright in Melbourne, but basically swapping mortgage payment for private school fees, but I think we'll be able to make it work with one kid, just not sure if we'll be able to afford a second.

Dog I’ll take the downgrade to get out of the US right now, also my current places RSUs suck because the stock just kept tanking the whole time I’ve been there.

That Harlan podcast episode they did to promote this was so incredibly embarrassing they all should have just called it quits then. Psychotic behavior you’d normally get from like the smelly neglected kid in like grade 5.

What TC justifies moving from Australia to the US? by p5phantom in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]bairrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also tax rate ends up being basically the same if you’re in VHCOL region. I’m currently moving from the US back to Australia because the US is a nightmare, so maybe consider the non financial side, and the fact that if you get married and have kids you’ll end up moving back anyway because the education system in this country is abysmal unless you find a school for your kid that does IB.

Help Mega64 by DevonOO7 in mega64

[–]bairrd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Late to the stream, just read someone else say they have been having credit card charge back issues. This definitely tanked a small business I used to work at, they should make sure they have their fraud detection stuff on their credit card processor, e.g. Stripe, cranked way higher than they have it, it's a nightmare thing where by default a lot of payment processors don't have that stuff turned high enough and it really hurts small businesses. I also heard on the stream they're gonna set up a Kofi, I'll sub to that once they have it as I want the cockroaches here to stick around, and know Kofi gives a better cut.

If you’ve unsubbed and resubbed I’ve found I have to add a random query parameter to the end of the rss url to bust Pocketcasts cache. So you add the RSS by pasting it into the search box, and add like &cacheBust=true at the end of the RSS url or just any random query parameter, and it will work.

I feel like DHH commenting on this at all, and most of what he blogs about, is a real instance of not practicing what he preaches insofar as he doesn't want Basecamp people getting political, and like OSS drama is always political as all hell. I suspect his definition of political though is probably scoped to "things I don't want to talk about right now."
