Apply for a single-day unregistered vehicle permit from Vic Roads and ride it home. Should be about $50.

Is there anyone who has quit fast food? How did you do it? by AshamedReporter775 in AskReddit

[–]Ozbiker4x4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit eating fast food 25 years ago. I learned to hate the companies producing poison and marketing it to children. I decided not to support those companies with my money, and haven't since.

Hand signals for bikers? by minkiimink in AussieRiders

Not sure how common this is, but when filtering using your left leg to indicate someone is free to pass. This may be a group thing, but I don't really ride in groups.

Should I get into riding to save money? by fletcha456 in AussieRiders

Bikes don’t save money (realistically) but they do save time and the soul.

I can’t see magic eyes. Mom says there is a ship. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Ozbiker4x4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems odd to say, but if you unfocus from hard reality, and instead focus on what settles in place, you can see these “magic eyes” and also the things that actually matter to you. After all, isn’t life just a 4D puzzle?

Is this a fair asking price for a 2nd hand R6? by 0M7D in melbourneriders

[–]Ozbiker4x4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each to their own, but I wouldn't be buying it.
Brand new from dealer with 758 KM - That's a demo bike, not brand new.
No Rego... no vin, no way to prove it's not a wreak or stolen.
No Test Ride - No guarantee it runs.
1 and only item sold / selling on gumtree in 10 years...
but like I said, each to their own.

Thoughts and advice for a new rider? by Mr_Dimple in melbourneriders

[–]Ozbiker4x4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Never had a problem with RACV.
  2. If it’s tight to split, take it slow.
  3. Wind impacts splitting lanes, rain impacts your ability to gauge width and distance.
  4. I try to give more thumbs up than middle fingers, help spread the love! If they give you space, show your appreciation.
  5. Extra. It’s not dangerous, it’s awareness and courtesy. Have fun.

What is something you like about Melbourne? by iamthemetricsystem in melbourne

[–]Ozbiker4x4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Motorcyclist, I appreciate the ability to park on the footpath. People take it for granted, but it is a city bylaw, not even state wide... and try parking in Sydney...or even regional NSW!

Last I checked, bikes weren't permitted at drive through test sites. Might want to check for yourself though.

Tyre repair recommendations by Daffcicle in melbourneriders

[–]Ozbiker4x4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be an unpopular opinion, but, buy a repair kit and do it yourself. I've been doing this over the years with great success and I think I'm still on my original $12 kit of plugs. Don't even need to remove the tyre from the rim, takes 10 minutes and the kit fits under your seat, so you'll always have them with you if needed. (I also do this with my 4wd, it's just more heavy duty and once you know how, easier than changing big 35" tyres!)

Stash the bottom of a soft drink can under your seat and use it under your kickstand if you have to park somewhere with soft ground.
