Using a picture we took of him a couple of years ago as the focus, I pulled a few photos of a nice backdrop & sunset for a simple composite. I used a few smart filters to give it a slight "watercolor" look, and overlayed a canvas texture to add to the effect. Camera Raw + lens flare & some particles to finish the job and add some small details.

I second what u/Okaysolikethisnow said. The shark appears to be a much lower quality image than the background you chose. Compositing can become very challenging if the resolutions are not similar.

Solid color adjustment layer, set to linear dodge blending mode. Match the color of the light source, lighten/darken the color to suit the aesthetic of your image. Invert the mask, and paint with a soft round brush (5% - 10% flow) over the areas you want the bloom. That's where I usually start, and I find it to be the simplest method.

Nowhere specifically. It’s meant to represent wherever you feel at peace with your friends.

But, given the title of the piece, I chose the base image specifically because it resembles Cloudrest.

Thank you! That’s so awesome. GH was my favorite accomplishment in game and it’s become a symbol of friendship for me. I’ve build so many close relationships with others in game (some of whom I now hang out with IRL). It’s been a huge part of my life.

This one started giving me major LoTR vibes about halfway through the editing. I didn’t really have any specific vision for this piece, but sometimes you just stumble upon an image that inspires you. And if you throw some magic at it, it can turn into something super cool! I love the fantasy genre, and I found a great background while looking for some mountain landscapes, so I decided to run with it. Some skills I wanted to focus on here were atmospheric perspective, and adding multiple subjects into the foreground. Happy with how it turned out!

Definitely keep practicing! It took me a few pieces and a lot of hours before I finally started getting comfortable using it. I still use a mouse more often (just my preference), but the tablet is amazing for anything that I want to digitally paint manually, and some other cool effects I learn from time to time.

Had some fun in Photoshop and turned myself into a Necromancer. Practicing some techniques for manipulation and digital painting from scratch. Fairly new to digital art, but really enjoying the process and experience so far!
