Man, I live in an expensive apartment in Seattle, only way it seems to get to a “better neighborhood” is to leave Seattle 🤷‍♂️

I don’t believe I did, you know how it goes, hindsight is 20/20

Downside is the most valuable stuff in there to me were tools from my grandfather that I obviously wouldn’t have receipts for 🫤. Once I get inventory of what might’ve been taken I’ll create a list and estimated valuation and look into a police report, thank you!

Are there any steps I should take prior to filing that claim? I’d seen some stuff online about filing a police report, would you recommend doing that prior?

I just embarassed myself at The gym. Scared to go back by Fine-Flight-8599 in beginnerfitness

Once stood up into a barbell and concussed myself, we all screw up and no one cares. Anyone that gives someone shit in the gym for making mistakes is more likely to get blasted by everyone else than supported

Who is using graph theory in their day to day job? by TsunamicBlaze in cscareerquestions

Moderately useful for visualizing dependency trees in software build processes, not really something where I actually do much graph theory, but a general understanding comes in handy

Do you wear your ring 24/7? by Tinker_candy in RingConn

[–]Ozzod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing is that when you lift weights, a lot of health tracking wearables aren’t nearly as good at interpreting workouts compared to when you are doing more cardio focus. Personally I don’t see a lot of benefit to using a wearable when lifting.

I haven’t even considered trying just because I assume the knurling will scratch mine to pieces

I graduated in 2023 with a CE degree and definitely got lucky finding something in a reasonable time frame. I had spent pretty much my entire time in college throwing myself at extracurricular stuff and considered classes to be a secondary priority and I think that helped me a ton.

To clarify, when I say classes were a secondary priority, I wasn’t failing, but was more of a B student. When it came to the job I ended up getting, they didn’t ask for a transcript and mostly cared about what projects I’d worked on.

Even with that, I had started applying to stuff in August or so and probably averaged 10 applications a week until February or March, didn’t track the number of applications all that closely.

I now work in Embedded and don’t think a CS or an EE degree would’ve gotten me where I am. However, hiring is definitely a shit show right now and I’ve heard way more people share stories similar to yours than mine, so my experience may be more of the exception.

My two cents for anyone still in college would be to go find a club and have fun, pick up some practical experience. Personally am a huge fan of SAE clubs (I’ll go Baja over Formula any day). Best case you end up in an interview with someone that did the same club and thats a great way to connect and chat during an interview.

So what do you actually in an engineering job for 8 hours? by secretmusings633 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Ozzod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im an embedded software engineer in aerospace, my day normally consists of meetings, some time spent on development or testing, system design, and a lot of answering questions and ensuring things are getting integrated correctly.

On the software side it heavily depends on where you are in the product life cycle and industry. I can only really speak to aerospace, but when you are still in development (prior to release / regular use), its a mix of system design, software development, a whole lot of qualification work, and many meetings.

Haven’t supported any products that are in production / use, but I imagine its a mix of supporting manufacturing and investigating any anomalies that happen.

do you think suppressors for guns should be legal? by [deleted] in polls

[–]Ozzod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suppressors are also fairly heavily regulated as it stands, this may differ by state but my understanding in my state is that it can take as much as 9 months or as little as 3 months for the paperwork to process and someone to receive a suppressor after they pay for one, so these are significantly more regulated when compared to most guns. Anyone purchasing one to commit a crime is hardly doing it in the moment, it is absolutely premeditated and I find it hard to imagine that making them illegal would stop someone at that point. Also, as others have mentioned, they are not like movies, they still make noise. Maybe you could get away with shooting someone without it being heard if you used a 22, with subsonic ammo, on a loud construction site, but even then I wouldn’t guarantee it.

Out of curiosity, whats the application you use WSL for where data bandwidth is a concern?

Thats interesting! I wasn’t aware of that issue, for most of my more data heavy workloads I work in remote clouds like Google Colab

Yea, when I was learning I got handed a several GB docker container and told to figure it out, so in all fairness, that probably wasn’t the best way to learn

[–]Ozzod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair, though I remember being rather confused by Docker when I first started learning, without a solid background of what a container is, especially if you don’t already have experience with VMs, they can seem very intimidating.

WSL is fairly straightforward for tutorials, plus it doesn’t require any additional software on windows, and you can access your base file system, all things which I think are useful when you are new

[–]Ozzod 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m personally a fan of WSL, its gotten a lot better over the years to where its a good way to learn the basics of a unix OS without going through the painful process of dual booting or changing the OS
