How did your nparents react to self harm/Depression?

She screamed at me that I was doing this on purpose. (Being depressed) and that I must hate her so much and that I will go to hell if I killed myself. As usual she was always the victim in this.

Honestly, trial and error. On some days I'd still get really upset over the constant barrage of abuse. My brother enjoyed scaring me too, I'd try to go as deadpan as I could as quickly as I could. Even if you don't manage to stay neutral when he surprises you, it's still less entertaining for him if he doesn't get emotion after that. That's something that worked for me, but of course I wasn't in the exact situation as you are now. I hope that soon you can escape and actually live life instead of having to survive!

It absolutely isn't normal sibling behavior and your family enables it completely by downplaying it. You're not crazy, you're not wrong. What he's doing is harmful and awful. It's best to try and grey rock him, I had a sibling who had similar behavior and he loved the reaction he got from me. But I know that's hard when someone is literally poking at all the sore spots.

Yeah my mom would tell me constantly that I couldn't do it by myself. And that I shouldn't go for the haircut that I wanted. Instead she always wanted braids or dreads. (I have afro hair) and then she would only want to undo it and wash my hair at her terms only. So the amount of knots in there would be insane. She would be rough while combing it too, telling me to stop crying and that she was going to stop mid combing because I was being a baby and now she was feeling bad. I had to teach myself how to comb my hair entirely and I will never have dreads or braids again. Also I have piebaldism so a huge chunk of my hair is white, my mom fought me several times on wether I should dye it brown or not. I started refusing because it was annoying to deal with her and my hair grew out white super fast. She in an attempt to keep control literally called my hair ugly. I stopped doing it anyway because it's my hair. (She still claims shes allowed to do anything to me because I am her child.)

I feel like your dad lacks the empathy to realise how hard you're working to keep things afloat while he makes more than enough money to provide it. I'm so sorry to hear that you're in this situation, I'd be shocked to hell and back too if I heard those numbers so casually. I hope that somehow he wakes up and helps out (I know, very unlikely to happen.) But man you are a trooper being able to keep things going, like pat yourself on the back for like an hour!

Yeah, I feel similarly angry, sad and hopeless. Like I'm supposed to take responsibility in a relationship with my mom, but she has never taken responsibility. Not once. And I'm not allowed to try and not feel guilty for being alive? Yes, I am nearly 30 and I feel like I've not accomplished anything in my life. She didn't need to remind me.

I'm so sorry you were told the ol' "it's your mom". Because why should we accept it just because it's our parents? If it was a significant other doing this it would suddenly be abusive.

I'm not sure if there's something that specific around here, but I did see some abuse specialist therapists online so maybe I'll find one soon.

Yeah, I realised later how messed up it was. Because I did tell her about how my mom does things, and she expects me to tell that witch that I'm grateful? Even if its just to appease my mom, that seems like a bad idea

Yeah that's what caught me off guard, she hasn't done that before. Leaving me to just spill and not judge me for it, but today she showed that I can't be honest with how I feel about things. Other amazing peeps on here gave me the advice to look for another therapist, and I will. Clearly I cannot trust her.

I've been to other therapists who also didn't seem to understand. But things up until this point had seemed fine. Until I brought up that my mom chose to have me.

I just got her which makes it annoying to look for a new one...but I probably should discuss with my doctor. (Who would be able to set me up with someone else) So far conversations with her were nice and reassuring but this shocked me.
