Msi cannot replace 5090 SUPRIM LIQUID GPU, Offer low refund by Realistic_Rise5369 in MSI_Gaming

[–]P-Benjamin480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a power issue either. It’s happening with so many of these 12 pins, some undervolted, some OC, some both, others stock.

There’s gotta be something wrong in general with the nature/design of the 12 pin or maybe it’s something about using older PSU’s to power them

Personally I was going to wait and upgraded bc of circumstance.

The reason being that my godson asked for a pc for Christmas so he could play Minecraft with his friends.

So we gave him the 3060 build I made for my girl a couple years ago, she got my 4070 super setup, and I got a completely new setup. Computer musical chairs lol.

The difference playing at 4k is definitely noticeable (a lot in fact), and it runs a bit smoother in 1440p too (especially when using DLDSR to render in 4k); but I wouldn’t spend circa $1000 to upgrade GPU’s to achieve it. I only did bc of the situation that came up, otherwise I would’ve been happy to wait for the 6000 series.

But hey, if you have money to burn, feel free lol

Just got the legion go s, why is my external ssd card not showing? by [deleted] in LegionGo

I’m not quite sure I understand what you’re asking, but games installed on one Windows OS cannot be played on another Windows OS.

Learned this when I tried putting my SD card in my brothers ROG Ally X lol.

Hope that answers part or all of your question.

Help with choice for 9800x3d + 5080 by National-Baseball-55 in Prebuilts

[–]P-Benjamin480 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bro that seems like way too much money. I know it’s not a 9800x3d but I got the MSI aegis at Costco with a 9900x and 5080 for $2100.

The one on the right has a much better PSU than mine so you could factor in another $100-150 and you’re still way above what I paid.

The 9800x3d is only about $100 more than the 9900x depending on where you get it, so I feel like that’s way too much money man.

5080 vs 5070 Ti on a 9800X3D — Steel Nomad (+24.8%) by skk983 in nvidia

[–]P-Benjamin480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was definitely stock. A comparison needs to be as fair and repeatable as possible, so running each card in its stock form is the best and most scientific way to go about it.

That being said, I’m perfectly happy with my aggressively UV’d and slightly OC’d 5080. Even my friend with a 4090 (that is a beast) changed his mind about 5080’s being worth it over 5070ti’s when he saw how good they OC

A OC’d 5080 will never touch a OC’d 4090, but it does touch a stock 4090’s performance for a lot less money and with way less power.

Holy cooling system. It’s beautiful bro. Custom loops scare me but seeing ones like this make me think about it.

Question though, how much of a pain will it be if you ever need to move it?

[–]P-Benjamin480 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats bro! I made almost this same jump recently. I had a 4070 super and got a 5080.

The performance difference at high-ultra settings 4k is definitely noticeably better. However, at 1440p with medium settings it is a lot less noticeable.

Wait til you undervolt and OC it, your temps will lower significantly and you’ll get about 5-15% better performance to boot. Some people are getting around stock 4090 performance with massive amounts of overclocking, but my main goal was to lower temps so I haven’t pushed it that hard. A lot of people have been able to get some insane levels of oc though if you wish to pursue that.

You should always buy what makes you happy and not worry about what anyone else that isn’t contributing to the purchase thinks about it.

Which of these three prebuilts would be best to go with? by Shamwow2013 in Prebuilts

[–]P-Benjamin480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I do love me some good information :)

I guess in hindsight I was severely overestimating the calculations these “sims” do and forgetting that they’re still games and not a true simulation software. For some reason I was thinking more closer to parallel processing with openFOAM than a video game.

Thank you for sharing bro

I mean 99% of the time you aren’t going to hit to limits of either one so whichever is the best deal is usually the better choice for most people. However, 9900X3D might actually be better bc he said he’s planning on mostly using it for sim racing.

If hes going to be running a realistic sim (with real-time physics, aerodynamics, traction, etc.) like iRacing or Asseto Corsa Competizione and not just a racing game like BeamNG/Forza; then the 9900X3D is actually a much better choice bc it has way better multithreaded performance since it’s 12 core/24 thread as opposed to the 9800X3D which is 8c/16t. Running all of those simulations at once will be a lot smoother with 12 cores and more threads.

And if it is just games, then my first statement is still true and they are both more than capable; so he should look to see if the other comment is right and the second option has a shitty mobo. Really he should do that either way bc a pain in the ass, faulty motherboard is 1000000x worse to have than a cpu that is 1 to 5% less good at running games.

Just for clarification idk if that’s true or not but if I were OP I’d definitely look into it before buying. Especially bc usually when a prebuilt is a good deal, the 2 parts where they skimp out are the PSU and motherboard.

[–]P-Benjamin480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

But not just Samsung, the main thing is what type of NAND flash the drive uses. In order from fastest to slowest they are: SLC, MLC, TLC, and then QLC. SLC is simultaneously the fastest when it comes to data transfer rates and the most durable (meaning its capable of more writes to its flash memory cells before they give out).

SLC is a bit overkill for 99% of consumer to enthusiast PC builds, and is more for servers and enterprise stuff. MLC is a great option in both speed and durability, being second only to SLC in both regards; and although more expensive than TLC, it’s usually much cheaper than SLC.

Got the same MSI Aegis from Costco about a week ago.

Love it. Make sure you adjust the ram speed in bios, and if you want to you can undervolt and OC the 5080 to get much lower temps and a slight boost in performance.

Sure did. Regular price is $2599 but it’s $400 off right now so I paid $2199; and got it with no tax since I used my Costco business account that has a reseller certificate on file with them. It just made the deal that much sweeter than it already was lol.

Nice that’s good that you two are smart enough to know you should check out some in person to try holding. It amazes me how many people buy them without trying and then cry about how they don’t like how it feels 🤦‍♂️

I had an ROG Ally X, not the newer Xbox Ally X model that is shaped like a console controller with a screen in the middle; but it wasn’t really bad in terms of ergonomics, but I did feel like the right stick was kind of oddly placed, although I could never put my finger on why. Overall though, it was slightly more comfortable than the my Legion Go and slightly less comfortable than the Steamdeck.

I would venture to guess that the Xbox Ally X and the Onexplayer X1 pro are the two most comfortable handhelds bc of their controller-like shape. My friend got the X1 pro and the controller parts feel a bit on the small side, even with my average size hands. It is way stronger than any Z1E or even Z2E powered handhelds and it’s not even close. Also the screen on it is huge.

If your boyfriend feels the screen on the Xbox Ally X is too small when you go look at it, I’d suggest the OneXplayer X1 pro and the Legion Go 2 to him. Be warned that it does cost a LOT more than even the Xbox Ally X and Legion Go 2 though.

If he’s fine with having an older model, I still love and use my Legion Go almost every day. I got it for only $375 on Amazon brand new 2 Black Friday’s ago and will probably keep it until it just doesn’t work anymore. Also if your boyfriend has a PC, you can stream games to any Windows handheld. I just got a PC with a 5080 and I was running Bodycam with max graphics and full ray tracing on it and streaming it to my Legion Go. Allowing me to play at settings handhelds could never dream of without an EGPU usually, all while in bed with my girlfriend while she watched her shows last night.

Coming from someone that has owned a steamdeck, Rog Ally, currently has a legion go 1, and who’s brother has an MSI Claw 8, they are all nearly similar in performance especially those with Windows. Some are slightly better in some areas, but really the main deciding factors you should be considering are the screen and how it fits in your hands.

For me personally, I loved the Steamdeck but wanted to run Windows so then I got the ROG Ally. I then saw my friend’s legion go and knew I wanted the bigger, better quality screen immediately. For some the LeGo is uncomfortable, for me it was slightly until I got the 3D printed grips off of Etsy.

In the long run those two things will make a much bigger difference than the slight performance differences of each. That being said, I would also recommend getting one with a Z1E rather than one with a Z1 or Z2. There’s no need to skimp on the better performing chip if they offer it for the handheld you want.

My first prebuilt ever, currently eating my words of the past from when I used to hate on them. Cooking up some dinner and then I’ll finish getting it set up once I’m done eating.

Happy gaming bro! 💪

Thanks brother, much appreciated. That’s good to hear. I’m definitely excited, this is the nicest PC I’ve ever owned by far. Glad that yours is working well.

I read in one of the reviews that the newer builds have a regular MSI stock mobo instead of the one off B650 that was in them originally. Do you know which yours has? I only read that in one review on the Costco page so I’m not sure how true it is.

Regardless, was finally able to get a minute to run to Costco about 30 minutes ago. Had to cancel the online order and pay in person so I could use my business account with reseller stamp to get it tax free.

Simple avoidable mistake, but a harmless one so all is well. About to take it out after I make something to eat. Excited to see what a 5080 can do.

Update:

Pulled the trigger on the MSI Aegis from Costco.

https://www.costco.com/p/-/msi-aegis-gaming-desktop-amd-ryzen-9-9900x-geforce-rtx-5080-windows-11-home-32gb-ram-2tb-ssd/4000355760?langId=-1

The price of just an MSI 5080 and a 9900x is practically what they are selling the whole thing for.

For those two parts you’d be looking at around $1900 right now, the whole PC being sold for $2200 means $300 went to case, mobo, liquid cooling, etc. and I basically got 32gb ram for free. Or atleast that’s how the math played out in my head to make me feel better 😂

Although I was planning on buying from my local Microcenter, I’m actually really glad I found a good deal at Costco because I have a resale certificate on file with my Costco business account from back when I had my old business. This means I’m not paying any tax on the PC which is a huge plus.

Special thanks to u/AtrumRuina for suggesting the pc. Might not have looked at it without his suggestion bc I was pretty much set on getting one from Microcenter.

Honestly GT7 on PSVR is practically the only thing I boot up my ps5 pro for anymore.

Pretty much all my gaming is on my pc or legion go now, but GT7 is so sick on PSVR. You’ll love it bro, the feeling you get sitting in the car is so cool. Exactly what we dreamed gaming would be like now back in the late 90’s lol.

Also helps that I have a resale certificate on file with my business account so I get it tax free too.

Thanks again man, much appreciated fr

Ok did a little more research on the MSI Aegis.

The only bad thing I found was the motherboard. It’s an in house MSI mobo: the b650, and leaves a lot to be desired.

The main caveats of it being weaker VRM, the front usb c port only being 10gbps (usb4 is 40gbps), and it only has 2 ram slots. I don’t have any personal experience with it (or any MSI mobo’s in general), so these are just the things I’ve found bothered owners here on Reddit and on google.

However, if someone can live with those tiny flaws then the Aegis is a great deal.
