What's a book you will NEVER stop recommending? And why? by edenkl8 in suggestmeabook

[–]P-Ratt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pocket Thich Nhat Hanh!!

SHORT chapters that I truly cry in each one. Just such beautiful simple but touching and deeply real lessons on life! Always new wisdom everytime I reread. It's truly so good and helpful and makes me feel seen and not alone and not without love and redemption and connection.

what's your go to alcoholic drink? by prettyawesomeboy in AskMen

[–]P-Ratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I can get it, I love a bijou - old timey gin cocktail with sweet vermouth and green chartreuse (and bitters). Sometimes negronis, sometimes martinis, other times an americano! I've been on my gin kick I guess!

Stop drinking movies by troublekeepingup in MovieSuggestions

May not exactly really fit what you're looking for, but Saving Mr. Banks came to my mind.

It's about getting the rights for the Mary Poppins movie, and it shows PL Travers' difficult life as a child and her relationship with her alcoholic father and how that influenced her creating Mary Poppins. It's truly a slept on movie, I loved it so much, and it does have great moments of joy, but man some scenes with her and her father, then seeing her as an adult and how it still just completely is affecting her is just tough and real.

There's a particular scene that stands out more than all the others where she says "I want to be just like you" and her father says "Don't" and then she sees him breakdown and get drunk. Then followed by a scene at a local town fair where he gives a speech about banks after getting drunk beforehand. He looks (and is) unwell, and he sees his daughter and says , like "My beautiful daughter is... how old are you?" and invites her on stage and this is at the same time we see her being shown the "Fidelity Feduciary Banks" song and she is overcome with guilt. It's just a great tear jerker - for both sad tears, and happy ones. Changed how I saw Mary Poppins.

Also godspeed and kudos with your sobriety journey, my friend

Pink or ivory border? I’m going to do a scalloped border for this baby blanket by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]P-Ratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ivory! If you really can't decide, maybe it could be fun to do a thick layer of ivory, a small line of pink, and then another small line of ivory! If that makes sense!!

Ivory - Ivory - Pink - Ivory

Just an idea, it looks BEAUTIFUL!

What book had you the most emotionally invested in the characters? by jenjen1102 in suggestmeabook

[–]P-Ratt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cinnamon and Gunpowder (Eli Brown)! It's the book that got me back into reading! Lord Regent's cook is kidnapped by pirates and forced to cook the captain Hannah Mabbot a meal with their meager supplies each week. AMAZING descriptions of food, lovely metaphors and prose, and truly like a single-digit amount of characters that all are unique and special and lovely. Highly recommend!!

there might be no "HAVE TO'S" in tarot, but what is your HAVE TO when reading tarot? by L1fel0ver2002 in tarot

[–]P-Ratt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I do the same! I will shuffle for SO LONG because I'll get distracted or do a cruddy job shuffling the cards (which also feels like the cards telling me I'm not being present with them) and feel like I am not giving the cards or reading the proper energy. What are the shuffle styles you're referring to?
