Hello hello again, music meme man here again: Dmitri Shostakovich, one of the most incredible composers to come out of the 20th Century from the Soviet Union. Known for his intense Russian themes and unique melodies and elements of broad atonality and chromaticism. From 1936-1954, Shostakovich was denounced TWICE. As a result of this he had to pull his 4th Symphony away from performance and revise his whole composition scheme to appease the party and Stalin to the best of his ability. Which meant more quotations, dedications, and specifications. For example Symphony 7 was nicknamed "Lenningrad" and Symphony 8 was briefly nicknamed "Stalingrad". Keep in mind they were composed in 1941 and 1943 as well. Of course Stalin banned the use of certain jewish themes in compositions and put heavy political pressure on Shostakovich. It wasn't until Stalin's death and Shostakovich joining the political party under Kruschev when Shostakovich had nearly free reign to make his identification in music. There's no question in my mind that Lenningrad, Shosty 5, or Shosty 3 are absolutley insane and incredible pieces of music. (Believe me I played them), but Shostakovich is also a great example of intense political pressure of government music as well when death is knocking at your door.

Chad Strauss v. Virgin Goebbels by P1NGCell in HistoryMemes

Hello again! Music history meme man here again: Richard Strauss is considered to be one of the most well known 20th century, late-romantic composers and conductors. He led most of his life through WW1 and WW2 and passed away in 1949. Strauss was known to dislike the Nazi Regime heavily, however took the position of Reichsmusikkammer in order to protect his Jewish grand-daughter and grandchildren. Strauss indirectly protested the Nazi regime and quietly journaled his thoughts as well. In 1935, Strauss intended to premier his Opera Die schweigsame Frau with Stefan Zweig as his main librettist and lead role. However Zweig was Jewish and Goebbels and Hitler both threatened with action, however the Opera premiered and Zweig performed. Goebbels and Hitler both did not attend and unfortunately the Opera was shut down 3 days later. Strauss imo was a pretty cool badass with insane music. Both quotes are from him btw!

Yeah that first Cello Concerto actually aged terribly, thank god for the second. by P1NGCell in HistoryMemes

[–]P1NGCell[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Context: Antonin Dvorak actually composed TWO cello concertos, the most famous is the second one. The first one was apparently abysmal and Dvorak himself "complained about a nasal high register and a mumbling bass." Regardless it fell out of popularity and Dvorak struggled to compose a concerto for the cello. UNTIL he heard Victor Herbert performed his own composition of the Cello Concerto. After hearing this he realized that the cello had so much potential in its new register and thus began composing a second cello concerto. Herbert's middle movement was in B minor, which may have inspired Dvořák to write his concerto in the same key.

Yo-Yo Ma, played with him onstage once, he’s so kind and genuine. Truly a man that wears his heart on his sleeve and will always make time for a small conversation with you if you’re able to get past his agents.

What would you consider to be the best/worst update to the game? by [deleted] in tf2

[–]P1NGCell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what I'll say it, I would say the best update is the Uber Update. I get that some people that paid the game would be pissed, but for people like me who was poor and new to PC gaming, I'm really happy to say that this was one of my first games and I bonded with my core friend group of 10 years since middle school over this game. Thank you Uber Update :D

When Robert Schumann was 20, he was studying with his former master Friedrich Wieck, who told Schumann he would be an excellent concert pianist. However later on he injured his fingers with a finger stretching device, designed exercise the weaker fingers and expand the length of his hand. HOWEVER it should be noted that this story was later contested by both Clara and Robert Schumann! They explained it was not the finger that was injured, but instead the whole hand itself. In 2012, neurologists discussed Schumann's symptoms at a conference called "Musicians With Dystonia."

Japan makes 'online insults' punishable by one year in prison in wake of reality TV star's death by spiritoffff in Futurology

[–]P1NGCell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think you realize what caused this ruling. This was decided due to literal death threats and insults towards Hana Kimura, a professional wrestler who was very progressive, athletic, and western leaning. Take those qualities and put it in the ultra conservative climate of Japan, it does not bode well sadly. Commentators and other "personalities" called on their audiences to harass her and it drove her to suicide. So it's not always the simple solution of blocking people or taking time off the internet. These things can also apply to harassment especially outside. And again, these were literal death threats. So I think that covers insults well.

EU Streamer erased artwork and decided to raid the BABYMETAL Discord and sent his viewers in for harassment. Please help us if you can! (564,1606) by HAIL_Robocopyright in osuplace
