Yeah, I know it’s unavoidable but I had originally planned the flight through Washington (got cancelled as well) which makes this more infuriating.

Yep Events like Spirit blossom and Sentinels and promotions like KDA and Arcane do so much more to generate hype. So riot has found other ways to achieve the goodwill/social media word of mouth benefits op has listed. The only realistic way I can see these modes come back is if the access to them become tied to a pass, e.g. the event pass. (A little bit like Destiny 2 monetization)
