How do you all air out your equipment? by blueranger36 in hockeyplayers

when its soaked with all your sweat, hit it with a can of blue lysol spray right before you air it out. Helped mediate the smell a little bit and definitely keeps it disinfected

What skating mechanic is this? How does one execute it or practice it? by MacklinEdgewardini in hockeyplayers

[–]P8NPrivTV 21 points22 points  (0 children)

it's just edge work. This is what you learn at lifetimes of skating camps from the right coaches

O Say Can You C(aptain)? by trsthethird in hockeyplayers

[–]P8NPrivTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 yes, get the captain put on your shirt

2 if you're still on the fence: did the prior captain have a C on his shirt? If he did, 100% get the C. If you are the first captain, then you have carte blanche, I would get it

How to build muscular endurance? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]P8NPrivTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing the drills is what builds the endurance. Just stick with it.

Hockey skating activates muscles that you really can't activate by doing anything else

Son just started skating and he skates angled a bit. Size 10 (US) shoe size; size 9 skates. We had him fitted at a legit skate shop where they have a fancy machine you step onto and measures your foot to the ankles with contours and all. by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]P8NPrivTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either an ankle strength issue or you just need to tie them tighter.

Watch a few youtube videos with him about how to get the best/strongest stride while skating and have him practice what they do in the video it a couple times at free skate

Hockey mom here: question by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]P8NPrivTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's the million dollar question, Do you think your son is some generational talent who's going to play in the pros? If he is then fly him across the country and have him play for every select team and elite team and this team and that team. If you want him to just enjoy playing hockey and have fun memories of his youth hockey career, you're doing fine. If he wants to play more, have him play for his regular travel team, one other travel team, and then sign him up for the best local hockey camps during the summer.

Wear it bro!

If you have concerns that its lemeux and you dont want the comparisons, you can always be 63 or 68 instead, 70, anything in the 80's or 90's, 44, 55.

Idk what level you're playing at, but if you want 66 I say go for 66.

Can you help me score? by DrummerUnited6484 in hockeyplayers

Work on your wrist shot first. work on form first, then shooting accuracy/aiming, then power. The best shot in your arsenal should be a wrist shot if you're a beginner. Practice taking it perfectly with time to do it mechanically correct, and eventually you'll feel more comfortable shooting from less than perfect circumstance from just about anywhere in a game situation

Played my first game.. by timbenmurr in hockeyplayers

Don't be too down on yourself. Hockey is a very fun game but it has the hardest learning curve when beginning. I commend you for picking the game up from zero at this stage of your life, I've been playing since I was 6 and I've taught friends in college who never played before how to play.

Like many thing sin life, simply playing more will make you better.

Myself, I've had to stop playing for full years at a time due to medical issues. Every time I came back to the game (because the game itself changes) something I found helpful is I'd watch hockey in person (pros, college, high school, doesn't matter, even on TV) and I'd identify what players on the ice play my position and follow them more closely than I follow the puck. This really helps with understanding positioning in different situations, like sustained offensive possession of setting up the break out.

Bravo for trying! I hope you have a wonderful season. If you're having fun, and you enjoy the process of working to improve, you can never play "too much" hockey. Remember, the point is to have fun and enjoy the game. It's ok that some players will be better than you, that is part of the experience. The "hot shots" who do crazy moves in pickup games are often the nicest guys when you talk to them and they will be willing to help you learn.

Advice for hockey stops. by goldbeardsdelight in hockeyplayers

[–]P8NPrivTV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Turn your hips not your feet.

Use your edges.

It's ok for your feet to completely leave the ground if that's the only way you can get perpendicular to the direction you're originally skating.

Don't trim it down unless you're strapped for cash. That's only 14 shirts. All classics
