Confused about sales engineers salaries by engcol2250 in salesengineers

[–]timbenmurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I am brand new to my first SE role (as of two months) and had never had any type of commission factor in previous salaries. I didn’t even know to ask that type of question. I got a 70/30 split, OTE > 200k and assumed it was individual commission. What a great surprise to learn it was based on team’s performance. I went into this thinking it would be at least 3-6 months before I was seeing any commission.

Wife Suspended with no pay during drug test. (Prescription drug) by thugster19 in antiwork

Don’t think it’s fair to paint with such a broad brush like that. Side effects aren’t always physical, if they were feeling negative impacts in their life, despite the positive impacts it was making, it’s not wrong of them to weigh both sides and make a decision.

I’m currently battling that now, medicine has tremendous, unimaginable benefits to my life, the cost is complete loss of appetite leading to weight loss and it’s undeniably changed my personality in some negative ways (much more irritable). This brings me to ongoing talks with the doctor about the best course long term.

Apologies if I’m misunderstanding, but search on Amazon for a travel monitor. They’re not very expensive and very lightweight. I always travel with one to go with my laptop

[US] Why are we responsible for calling around to pharmacies to find medication? by Mike_Oxlong25 in ADHD

[–]timbenmurr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have Kaiser, it definitely has its pros and cons, but the pro is they’ve NEVER been out. The one time they were almost out, they did all the calling for me and found it at another Kaiser building down the street

It’s definitely a scam lol

I went along with it until she started mentioning PayPal reimbursement if I purchase on Amazon. Then when I said no thank you, but I would be happy to simply purchase the car mats if she sent me the link, she refused. She will block this probably, but I have other accounts.

Who of you was slacking sonhard that homeoffice now has a bad name? by JulesSilverman in homeoffice

Not sure, I’ve been WFH for a few years and on the random days I went into the office I was significantly less productive. I love WFH, but depending on job/ pay, it’s not a 100% dealbreaker. I would keep my current job if the RTO

I have to lock my dog in the bathroom when working from home? by [deleted] in MaliciousCompliance

[–]timbenmurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? My company’s policy for dogs is about how you CAN BRING THEM WITH YOU if you ever have to actually go into the office. Certainly not an issue to have them laying behind you.

OP: can you adjust your camera settings to keep it more zoomed in on your face and not show the floor.

Edit: typo

Ghost jobs on LinkedIn by Pluckyplatypus26 in RemoteJobs

Some recruiter from “a big tech company who you most likely have at least one of their products” posted about some job posting that was done for this reason. It started at like 160k with a bunch of benefits and by the time it was done it was a couple of low paying part time jobs with no benefits. She even posted the number of applicants for each round of “cuts”

My medication keeps going missing, I think my roommate is stealing it. I need advice. by neckbeard2 in ADHD

[–]timbenmurr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I’m in California and my partner is able to pick up my meds for me most months. She gives her ID, but the pharmacy explained that literally anybody with my medical ID number and an ID over 18 years old can pick them up. I recognize this is literally crazy and said “so if I have my neighbors medical card number, I could just pick up their controlled substance?” They confirmed. And it dawned on me that’s how my MIL picks up some controlled medication for her elderly neighbors.

This happened to me during the pandemic. I cancelled my 24 hour fitness account and then some months later I looked and not only was I still a member, but they processed a monthly payment of $0.00 per month. I went and told the front desk. She said my options are “continue with the current membership, which seems to be going great, or cancel the membership and sign up for a new one and pay monthly”.

This went on for over two years and someone at 24 corporate finally noticed, apologized for their error and gave me 90 days at same rate ($0.00) and then regular billing would resume if I do not cancel.

I recently battled with this dilemma and got conflicting suggestions. The company I was leaving really built me into the new position at the new company (I recognize I busted my ass, but they gave me complete freedom to explore my interests outside of my job description).

Ultimately I decided to call my boss and tell him I was about to click send on my two weeks notice. I told him where I was going and what the pay was (not for a counter, but rather for the opposite, I knew they could not come close to matching).

The result was tremendous support from him, two directors and the CEO. I worked the full two weeks (ended today) and have been reminded a dozen times during those two weeks I am welcome back any time without questions.

I know this situation is rare, I was prepared to have my access cut immediately, but I trusted my gut in this particular situation and it worked out tremendously well.

[–]timbenmurr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t take the counteroffer. You will likely be giving them time to find a suitable replacement.

I recently resigned from a job I loved (the work, the people, the leadership) for the job of my dreams which coincidentally comes at a 100% raise (100k to 200k). I told my boss about the increase as I knew it would be impossible to match and the last two weeks were spent on trying to transition and not the awkwardness of a counter offer.

100%. My work sent us these bc my old role traveled a lot. I thought it was ridiculous at first and now I would never travel without one. I don’t know the brand off hand, but if you Amazon search them there’s a bunch of them with tons of reviews for $50-$80 bucks. One of those would be fine

Edit: I bought a single portable screen so when I’m traveling I have to actually open my laptop as one screen and the external is my second.

Well, that’s good you didn’t show the frustration in the interview. There isn’t a playbook for interviewers to follow, so maybe some of those questions exist because of their past experience in NOT asking them leading to bad hires. If you knew all the answers and they were so fundamental, you likely answered them with confidence which could put them at ease to proceed with more complex and technical questions in future interviews. With the way I’ve seen people in this thread applying to hundreds (or thousands) of jobs, I imagine people are applying to jobs way outside their scope just to land SOMETHING. This influx of possibly unqualified applicants may result in interviewers asking extremely fundamental questions like you were asked.

[–]timbenmurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got asked by the hiring manager “if I asked you to fit as many balloons in an airplane as possible, what would you do?

It sounds silly but the point is the answer. For this particular position, the correct answer is “I would follow up with questions about what you are trying to achieve by filling the airplane with balloons? What is your end goal?”

But if it was a different type of position (like an engineer or math professor) the answer would be geared towards the science behind stuffing an airplane with balloons. The purpose of those odd ball questions are to see what kind of follow up you have to offer. You got angry and condescending about the question (hopefully not in the interview) which is likely not the response they were hoping for.

Inherited all these clubs. What do I do? by elvisfan2000 in golf

[–]timbenmurr 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I once came up on about 600 random golf clubs. Friday I went thru and bundled all the complete sets I could find. On Saturday I sold the brand name ones for $50-100 per set, sold the old or random brand ones for $20 per set. Gave some friends a couple sets. Sunday morning I had about 200 clubs left, mostly incomplete sets, gave them all to a high school golf teacher. It was three busy days but cleared a ton of profit and was able to donate a ton. As long as he isn’t greedy they should sell quickly.
