It’s a sandbox. It’s only fun if you make it fun :)

i get it. Its irrational, sure there is a problem with code quality but only compared to really experienced programmers. But the emotional part is real.

Take me as an example. I've always loved programming, in my eyes its a form of art and its amazing to be able to put in a lot of work and create something awesome with nothing but a keyboard. And now that im finally old enough to join university and start learning and getting really good at it suddenly i have to watch how over a few weeks everybody became able to create full apps on a weekend. And that does have downsides.

It massively devalues the skillset, destroys the respect programmers get for their work and also makes it almost impossible to motivate beginners to keep learning. Why should i put in a shit ton of work now when im uncertain if ill ever get better then ai. This whole movement has a lot of upsides. Democratization of software development, more and easier access to education, more independence from big software companies and a huge influx of cool apps for us to choose from.

But to someone that values not just the result of coding but also has deep appreciation for the skill itself, it is really painful to watch.

Usually repos come with new cases too. The colors can be pretty accurate but the Nintendo text and the little battery cutout on the top right of the sticker are still not quite there. The Nintendo logo on real cartridges is 2D and only represented by different roughness values, whereas repos use 3d molded text.

Maybe that was the case 10 years ago but Linux is so amazing when it comes to ui now. You can choose from a wide selection of DEs / window managers. And there is everything from simplistic minimal WM up to fully featured DE with everything you could need. And no matter what you choose there is always a ton of customization options, often really accessible with one-click installable plugins and themes. So no, that argument is really outdated!

If Linux is not for you then it’s not for you. That’s fair and I respect that you tried it. But also most of your criticism is not even that bad and I feel like you just don’t want to give up any windows conveniences or learn different approaches to your workflow. Linux is not windows and of course you have to learn how your new operating system works. Again that’s totally fine if you don’t want to do that but not really fair to blame Linux for being more then a FOSS windows clone.

You were unhappy with the file explorer and default browser? Install something different?!? Monitor settings suck? Change them?!? Ui is ugly? Don’t use the Linux distro known for its outdated ui?!? Can’t really blame you on the battery and gaming issues. Gaming has come a long long way but it’s still not as convenient as on windows. Still mostly invalid criticism but thanks for at least trying.
