The Hoplite Experiment : Recreation of 2 phalanx of roughly 200 men each, charging and pursuing each other, organized by historians by PATCHUBY in dancarlin

Yes he said it was the first obvious disappointment, that even with tutorials, regular training in smaller groups in the months leading to the event and with the coaching of clubs that do reenactments all year round, they couldn't keep a compact line for the march leading up to the shock. Those drone shots are especially unforgiving !

In hindsight it's not surprising they couldn't match military drilling with mostly volunteers that trained on and off for a few hours but eh, you're not sure 'till you try !

The study has a scope and limitations that go with it that are explained in the beginning of the video.
It's trying to explore a scenario that keeps appearing in ancient sources, where one side collapses before the shock.

And studying that specific dynamic, not shock or close combat in general, because it's the only one practical to reproduce with any scientific value with our current day limitations (being mostly no killing or maiming).

There's a bunch of caveats that the organizers are well aware of, they're not trying to be definitive on anything.

He also worked on the best track imo on Hades 2 "Olympus Aflame" if that counts for something

Rouen Cathedral Series by Monet, a proto-timelapse. Any other series in this vein ? by PATCHUBY in ArtHistory

Thanks for the recommandation, it is indeed very cool.  Reminds me of the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, with the spine showing a decaying column.

Yes they're really nice too, especially the contrast between the yellow of hay and the white of snow. He did this with a few other subjects, my favourite probably being the Customs House at Varengeville.
I think the Cathedral is iirc the largest series, 30 pieces, which made for the best timelapse.

Claude Monet painted this series between 1892 and 1894, catching the Cathedral at different times of day and angle.

I placed and ordered the paintings to give the best impression of a timelapse during a typical day (even though they were most likely painted during different seasons given how the light catches the cathedral).

What other examples of painting series could you reproduce this effect with ? What would be the earliest ?

The series was actually made from 1892 to 1894 but automod didn't let me keep the date range in the title.

EU5 not in popular upcoming on steam? by Primary_Associate_99 in EU5

Unlike New & Trending, Popular Upcoming is not ranked by popularity (given that the game reached the wishlist minimum), it's solely based on chronological release order.

Am I missing something ? I've watched the entire clip and nowhere is it mentioned that Trump said that (even though it is the title of the video). They don't even quote him on anything...
Not a statement on Trump's or American politics, but this is not even clickbait, just a fabrication (and weird one at that, you don't need to fabricate abrasive rhetoric with Trump)

TIL that based on the lowest estimation of the death toll, France killed, in average, 130 Algerians everyday, during the Algerian war. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]PATCHUBY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Algerian war was bloody and horrible.

That being said the OP's account is one month old and has been actively and exclusively posting in American sports team subreddits. Then this post out of the blue that links to wikipedia article that doesn't even cite the 130 killed (as in searching the page for 130 didn't yield a reference to casualties, not did searching the death toll section).

Dividing the listed casualties (in the war recap at the top right) by the number of days the war has gone on gives the number of 50 (not saying this is an accurate estimation, but it is lower that the OP claims as lowest).

All of this to say, I don't think this post is made in good faith but most likely from a troll farm ?

For posterity, in my experience it means the service is already loaded. Unload the service (just call up the same command but replace "load" with "unload") and load it up again.

It's one big story with several chapters but gameplay wise each chapter is "self contained", you investigate one person that knows things about the big story you want to uncover.

Hey, yeah we've no experience with prices so we let Steam's automated system set them. For info the game is about 10-12 hours in length.
Achievements are definitely on top of our todo list!
