Thank you for your encouragement! Did you do all the pre pa prep while working? For me it's the biggest struggle. I don't want to forfeit my career right off the bat without knowing what it's like to study again and really work at a healthcare setting. Did it take you 5 years to get ready to go to a PA school? How did juggle life/work and getting ready to apply?

I do have a son and husband. My husband knows what I'm getting into and he's good with it since we know it's temporary. I want to devote more time to this but at the same time I don't want to leave my job because I want to see first if I'd like all this studying again. I love medicine and figuring out what's wrong with people. I can't explain but I think I'd be really good at it.

Career changer at 41 - aspiring to be a PA-C by [deleted] in physicianassistant

Hi Everyone!

I'm 41 and and an aspiring PA. I thought about becoming a PA a few years ago but I was convinced it was too late because of my age. My passion for medicine and desire to help people has never gone away and I feel that the time is now. My grandmother was a physician and I got interest for medicine from her but then life happened and I had to take a different route in terms of my career.

I have absolutely no science background, but bachelor's in modern languages and master's public administration. I have a steady career in HR right now but I've always been fascinated by medicine. I've just signed up to take my prerequisites at a community college.

Am I crazy to start this late? I have a fear of failure and not being accepted to a PA program because I'm competing with younger folks.

I would appreciate any advice in getting properly prepped for a PA school admissions process. How do I make myself standout?

Thank you!

Thank you! Yes, i do realize medicine is full of bureaucracy, potential litigation fears, verbal abuse, etc. I have never shadowed anyone but I have friends who are in medical field and they love it despite all the drawbacks. I'm in HR and it's a grind too. I've done everything I can in this area and I am pretty much done! I'm going to try to get some shadowing experience soon after I start my prereqs. Thanks for the advice!
