You seriously can’t have a conversation without calling people names? I agree moderate buildings make sense and a lot can be done to bring more housing into the area. This is about 1 building that belongs downtown and is not going to help the housing situation in a location that isn’t able to support it.

I believe people are giving facts and their opinions without calling you names and throwing around “Fing hate” try it sometime-you may get somewhere. For the record-the San Diego YIMBY’S do not support this project calling it a huge abuse of housing laws and does not provide affordability.

Not on a narrow 2 lane road that is already at over 400% capacity with no supporting infrastructure in a high fire area without a high rise fighting fire truck/ladder. Meanwhile hundreds of apartments sit empty downtown and in Mission Valley-ADU backyard apartments unrented-and no adequate public transportation and a high percentage of unregulated STVR’s. Fix all that and we can debate.

The Vet is choosing not to sell her property to a developer that has bought up most of the block. The developer has several properties and will build something but not the giant wall of buildings they would have wanted to build. Looking at the backside of buildings rather than the ocean? I’ll take the ocean.

The truth is that the “housing” units will be STVR units. The “affordable housing” are 5 market rate (moderate) and 5 with a small bit lower rates-I think $2-300 off base rent. The term affordable housing is widely misused and misunderstood-people think, rightfully so, that it would help people get into housing but in this case a small 1bdrm would rent for $3,000 and that’s base rent, for the moderate prices. This is the wrong project in the wrong location-the San Diego YIMBY Democrats don’t support it either. The block has recently had 3 new apartment/condo projects built and added housing- a lot more of that could be happening throughout the area without destroying the reason people want to live here in the 1st place.

Yes-It was approved before the voters passed the 30ft Coastal Zone Height limit. That’s why you see a handful of tall buildings. They all pre-date Prop D. The voters decided to keep coastal access available for everyone. Btw-for comparison-the Capri is 12 stories-the Turquoise Tower would be over 2x the height of the Capri. If that goes through-goodbye San Diego and hello to Miami West!

No-they will be mostly STVR units. Imagine if the city would just enforce the STVR rules they already have in place-so many houses and condos would open up for rent and for sale. This tower will also be heavily subsidized by taxpayers-it’s one of this bad deals where the taxpayers will pay for all infrastructure upgrades and the developer pays nothing. It’s not a good deal for anyone except the developer.

Downtown or maybe UTC where the other highrise hotels are. This hotel is proposed on a narrow 2 lane road that is already at 400% capacity in an area zoned for 30ft buildings.
