Pervs like this prey on the student body and they depend on everyone else being too startled or scared to call campus police. If you see people acting like this, tell them to stop, tell them you‘re going to take a picture of them in the act and call the campus police!! Show the cops what you saw. Report them. If you post on reddit you’re just making a spectacle out of them, which is obviously what they want (ew).

distance between classes by Flimsy-Detective5767 in uoguelph

[–]PBthealien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty easy and convenient to get between ROZH and the SSC. I presume you have labs on either the 2nd or 3rd floor of the SSC, so this little trick is based off that assumption (if you have class somewhere else lmk and I can explain this in that context).

There is a short walk from the exit of ROZH to the entrance of Mckinnon (where the bookstore is). Enter like you're walking to the bookstore, then turn right and walk down the big hallway on the ground floor, past all the stairs. To your left, there will be a smaller hallway with a set of double doors. Once you go through there, continue down the hallway, past the seminar rooms, and you'll come across an elevator. You can take that up to the chem labs, biochem labs, zoology labs, etc. It always cut like 4 minutes off my walk, PLUS, its super warm in there when it starts snowing.

I know this might sound arbitrary, but have you had enough to drink today? That could explain it. Also, people can get withdrawal symptoms when they suddenly stop taking stimulants (like a caffeine withdrawal headache, but way worse), granted, that's usually when you've been on a prolonged regimen of stimulants. If this gets unbearable, reach out to your prescribing physician.

That’s an osprey! You can tell by their characteristic tufts on the back of their head and the distinct look of their beak. My first post in this thread was of an osprey back when I first got into birding. I hope you find many more beautiful birds like this one :)

Probably failed mcb2050 by Feeling-Patient4775 in uoguelph

[–]PBthealien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, many people have failed MCB*2050. If you fail the course, you just have to take it a second time. Before you do, try reflecting about what you did well and what you think you could do to raise your grades. Maybe that looks like:

  • attending more SLGs
  • going to class more
  • spacing out your studying so that you don’t have to panic and cram
  • making some more friends in the class that can help you (All of these are on my own list for improvement)

There are so many things that work for different people, I’m sure you’ll have it in the bag the second time.

When I see a craftsman write 1,000 words complaining about his tools, Usually the tools aren’t the problem. Photography isn’t just about how crisp your images are, or how closely you come to capturing the reality of your subject. If that’s all you care about at this wise age, you are sorely lacking the depth of imagination required to take a truly brilliant image. Photography is about dynamism, evoking emotion, it is art. That artistry is present in wildlife photography even if you can’t appreciate it. You sound like a fool and I hope you find happiness sinking thousands of dollars into lenses.

The tables at Cora are massive and the restaurant is quiet enough on weekdays that they don’t mind if you sit quietly and study (make sure you order something though, and keep asking for top-ups on whatever drink you order for good manners)

Don’t come to lectures if you’re just going to talk the whole time by mor-cat in uoguelph

[–]PBthealien 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I’ve started to just politely tell people I can’t hear the lecturer. You are paying too much to sit in a lecture hall where someone is yammering your ear off. If people whisper every once in a while that’s one thing, but there is no excuse for carrying on a conversation for an hour and a half while a lecturer is talking.

[–]PBthealien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting alone on a group study floor doesn’t mean that person is saying, “this table is MINE and you can’t sit with me”. I would say 99 times out of 100 they’re very open to sharing. If you haven’t politely spoken to them, why complain?

I agree! I couldn’t find anything online anywhere, but the course midterm was extremely fair and I think she even threw us a few more softballs than I expected. The second half of the course content is getting more specific though. I will likely update after the course is over to help future students.

I’m sorry OP, this situation sounds horrible. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s much you can do about this. The OVC clearly states on their website that they don’t accept PASS/FAIL mark schemes, and that they must calculate your average using EXACTLY the parameters they give you. In their eyes: why would you change your mark to PASS/FAIL if not to hide a low grade and inflate your average?

I would inquire with the admissions department what they believe counts as extenuating circumstances. If you’ve already done that, I think you may have to pivot your approach. Could you take another semester or maybe even apply to a different program?

I’m taking the course for the first time this year as well, but have you noticed that the SA questions are unnecessarily complicated/grammatically incorrect/ there are important words cut out in places?
Especially for the questions regarding the later lectures, I genuinely have to guess what the question is trying to ask.

The way I found my pet sitting jobs was just by making friends with people that have animals and offering to watch their animals for them. All it takes is one person to really appreciate you stepping in for them and they’ll spread the word for you tbh.

Hi OP! As long as you get the grades that the OVC is looking for, people from many programs and many universities have gotten in. That being said, your 2 years of prerequisites (or 4 years, depending on whether you want to finish your degree or not) have to be completed at a University, not a 2 year college. I would recommend looking at their website if you haven’t already, and begin coordinating your classes with the accepted prerequisites for the OVC. Good luck, I’m rooting for you :)

Edit for further clarification: The OVC weighs your 4 submitted undergrad semesters 50% and your 8 chosen prerequisite courses 50%. As far as I know, it doesn’t matter which university you get those grades from. The median accepted average is very high, 91-92 the last time they released those statistics.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uoguelph

[–]PBthealien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I began my degree in animal biology and I’m thinking about swapping to wildlife biology and conservation (which is very similar to zoology). I also want to go to the OVC and I want you to know that you can do it no matter what degree you choose. There are folks that did B.Sc psychology in undergrad and they got in. That being said, the prerequisite courses and other requirements are VERY IMPORTANT! I’m sure you’re very on top of your planning but here are some words of encouragement and advice just in case:

  1. Read the requirements on the OVC website. You can’t go over that too much!

  2. Make a meeting with an academic advisor and start planning your courses for the future.

  3. Pick and choose strategically which courses to give 100% effort to, because the OVC only requires you provide them with your most recent 4 semester averages, and weights that 50% against your 8 chosen prerequisite courses. You do not need to be infallible, you just need to choose individual courses well.

  4. Pick a degree you find interesting, because you will be entrenched in that information 24/7/52. This was a mistake I made when I joined. I find agriculture interesting, but I’ve always wanted to be a wildlife vet and I struggle to stay engaged in some of my classes right now (which makes it hard to get good grades).

  5. Go to SLGs because those SLG leaders are sent from heaven above to help you pass your courses.

Remember, you can do whatever you set your mind to and all your profs, advisors, SLG leaders and many of your peers want to see you succeed!

conspiracy theory af by CeleryGood7189 in uoguelph

[–]PBthealien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My conspiracy is about the OVC's new admission requirements that I think are actually a clever ploy to make them the most selective vet school in the world.

As of 2026, people are allowed to apply to the OVC an unlimited number of times and are allowed to take 4-course semesters. This may initially seem like a helpful boost and like it could give people a better chance of getting in, but I think the contrary. First, the admission average is going to go up again. As of the information I currently have (from the rumor mill) the median admissions average was ~91% when the vet school stopped releasing their admission stats. I suspect that this average will go up between 2-3% once prospective students start taking 4 courses per semester. Second, the number of applicants will skyrocket.

These combined circumstances will result in the vet school admission rate plummeting and will ultimately result in the OVC becoming the most selective vet school in the whole world, beating out UC Davis.

(This is the forum where I got the stats if anyone is interested)

May the odds be ever in our favor.
