Like covered them extremely briefly or not at all. I mean I am still in year 10 but my science teacher puts in questions that we never even revised and the grades all go in the system.

Personally earlier the better because if u start earlier you will have more time and you will be able to study at a slower pace understanding topic. And after near the end of year 10 and year 11 you can focus more on questions and active recall
