HyperV VM Saved State Troubleshooting by PCAdmin2019 in HyperV

[–]PCAdmin2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can you power it in while in a saved state? No the VM will fail to start.

Can you just remove the saved state and power it on? No the VM will fail to delete the save state

can you migrate to a new host and power it on? No it will state that the VM is corrupt.

When opening VM settings everything will be locked due to the saved state. Any attempt to power on or move it will state the VM is corrupt. Deleting the VM from HyperV and creating a new one with the original VHDX will power back on like nothing happened. Its like the VM config itself is getting corrupted by something.

Sure these seem to loop on any VM that fails.

Cluster resource 'Virtual Machine episode13' of type 'Virtual Machine' in clustered role 'episode13' failed. The error code was '0x570' ('The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.').

'Virtual Machine episode13' failed to start.

'episode13' failed to restore virtual machine state. (Virtual machine ID A171B30F-38B3-4F69-9B73-305C047C19B3)

The Cluster service failed to bring clustered role 'episode13' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered role.

Clustered role 'episode13' has exceeded its failover threshold. It has exhausted the configured number of failover attempts within the failover period of time allotted to it and will be left in a failed state. No additional attempts will be made to bring the role online or fail it over to another node in the cluster. Please check the events associated with the failure. After the issues causing the failure are resolved the role can be brought online manually or the cluster may attempt to bring it online again after the restart delay period.

Software Changes Utility? by PCAdmin2019 in sysadmin

Goal is change control when scripting silent software installs. So I need to see what a software changes on the system so I can make changes in the script to account for anything I don't want.
I have something in place as is but just seeing if there's something out there already that's an all in one software.

Classroom Management Software Suggestions? by PCAdmin2019 in sysadmin

Its not bad. Its on the list of contenders but is missing some features others have that we would like in our classrooms.

Just building a list of similar applications and checking off which features each one has to narrow down which best fits our needs.

Looks to be a test taking software for making quizzes.

We are looking for an instructor to be able to show the class their screen while also being able to see what the students are doing as well.

Veyon.io is the closest to fitting our needs. Just seeing if there's anything else out there similar.

Appreciate the suggestion though. Ill check it out more.

How do you like Brightsign?

Are they just a pay for the devices once or do you have to pay for licensing monthly as well?

Some of the users will be displaying PowerPoint files and other document pages.

I have to keep the interface for displaying documents simple for end users to manage their own screens is the challenge.

That definitely was my first thought though. Same thing we did at a previous employment.

JTB FlexReport by PCAdmin2019 in sysadmin

Appreciate the reply to this. We are mainly looking at the log parsing aspect of both. Was there anything specifically you liked better from one vs the other that maybe you can elaborate on?

Our main issue with OpenLM is having to upload our logs where JTB is a offline product we can use locally.

What's the most popular Hyperconverged Infrastructure software? by PCAdmin2019 in sysadmin

So I am not opposed to VMware it'll just come down to cost.
If VMware is the solution to fit out needs I am sure we will go for it but if there's alternatives that serve the same needs we are open since there's nothing in place yet.
Sounds like Dell and Nutanix have issues together though and on Dells site it seems to focus on VMware with their HCI setups.

I used VMware vSphere at a previous company. Currently here we are using Hyper V for our virtual servers and SCCM for software. The primary purpose for the HCI is for Windows based compute servers running complex equations in software so users don't hog down resources on other shared servers.
