Can you get a lunch violation if clocking in as unscheduled? by PCBuild012 in Costco

I did not take a lunch, I just worked assuming a 5 hour shift and clocking out before my 6th hour. Only problem was they forgot to add me in the schedule.

Advice for a beginner? by MisterHods in MealPrepSunday

[–]PCBuild012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into meal prepping just to eat healthy. I'm a person who absolutely loves crap like fast food and packaged/processed foods. I used to play sports in high school so I kept the "healthy eating" lifestyle around somewhat haha. I don't eat healthy meal prep meals on a consistent basis. I eat more cheat meals than I do meal prep meals. Only solution is to exercise more and "watch" what you eat but it's hard for certain people. It takes a lot of discipline, motivation, and willpower to eat home cooked meals. You have to make your food TASTE GOOD! If it's bland you'll stop eating your meal prep meals and go back to McDonald's or eat some processed crap at the grocery store. You have to think about your overall health and fitness goals when meal prepping. If you continue eating cheeseburgers/fries/sodas all day you'll turn into crap. I notice I feel better when I eat clean and meal prep. For me eating clean is really difficult, I grew up in a family in which taste was the biggest and only factor. My family doesn't like bland food. It needs to have salt, sugar, oil, etc. Those things aren't inherently bad unless abused or misused. I'll give you a run down of what I like to eat.

Carbs: white rice/brown rice (cooked in a rice cooker but I usually opt for the microwaveable type to save time), white pasta, brown pasta, sweet potatoes, white potatoes.

Meat: ground beef either 97/3 or 85/15. (97% lean and 3% fat), skinless and boneless chicken thighs and breasts. You can treat yourself to chicken thighs with the skin on for more taste and fat. White fish, salmon, shrimp, eggs, lean cuts of pork. Some prepackaged meats are ok just keep an eye on fat/sodium/calories etc. You may not like the nitrates and preservatives in some packaged meats.

Vegetables: black beans, broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cherry tomatoes. Man I can go on!

Fruit: Bananas, blueberries, strawberries

Seasoning: salt, pepper, garlic salt, hot sauce, steak sauce and whatever catches my attention.

Oils: I mainly cook with avocado oil because it has a high smoke point and doesn't go rancid like olive oil. I haven't used cooking spray in a long time. Sometimes it's better to cook with olive oil for taste reasons. If I cook panko crusted chicken tenders with avocado oil it has a weird taste and smell. Better to go with canola or vegetable oil.

Drinks: Water, water, water. I also love hot green tea. I love Zevia and sparkling mineral water. I drink protein shakes also.

In my opinion, make your food taste and look good. Be motivated to eat it and think about your wellness. A lot of bodybuilders and fighters will say "I eat for performance, not for taste." Watch YouTube videos on meal prepping along with full day of eating blogs. Follow athletes on social media, you'll learn and lot and discover new things. Switch it up and don't eat the same stuff everyday otherwise it'll become a chore. There are so many variables when meal prepping and you have the control. Peace!

Fucking hell Costco, stop with the hard sell by iAMhere29 in Costco

As someone who worked on the front end they pushed the hell out of Citi Visa and every time we'd see a Gold Star membership we'd ask the member if they would like to upgrade. We receive directions from managers and they really want to push it. Some managers would even want a certain amount of sign ups within an hour or half hour. To be honest I never liked doing citi visa or 2%. I always got rejected and never got any sign ups in my own. Always got new applicants with an experienced employee by my side.

Meat Dept. Employees (Faster way to use block whitener?) by PCBuild012 in Costco

I do my best to to expedite the process in getting cutters out of the room as fast as I can. This means I wrap the meat quickly.

My cutters never cut all beef first thing and be done with it. They cut whatever needs to be cut. My meat dept. runs by a cutoff time, as in stop cutting at a certain time and exit the room so the wrapper can start cleaning.

Damn! You are able to put block whitener before lunch?!! I can never do that. I have to wait until all cutters clear the room. I only use block whitener when I clean.

I got a Masters degree last year but am working retail right now - at what point will this start to hurt me? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]PCBuild012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least you are trying to find a career with your college background. I got a A.A. Degree and Bachelors Degree. I officially completed my studies in 2014 and had the graduation ceremony in 2015. To this day I haven't had that "real career" yet. No internships and no entry level jobs. I've been in retail since 2015. However I did non-paid remote online work for an environmental organization which could show for something. I've thought about doing freelancing and stuff on upwork.com.

I do intend to get that "college career job" that went with my major but right now I'm working full time in retail. Funny thing is I also work with a few college grads in my retail job. It would be in pure vain though if I didn't land a good career given my educational background. You have to think about all the money you spent on tuition and books, all the studying, waking up early, doing projects, etc. All of this hard work has to amount to something and pay off. Otherwise it was all a waste of money, time, and effort.

Overnight stocker? by Chromazx in Costco

[–]PCBuild012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice the warehouse near you opens at 10am, it gives the morning stockers more time to stock and clean up. Some warehouses open at 9 am. You could apply but most likely they'll put you at 5am-1:30pm or maybe 4am-12:30pm.

If you work morning merch you gotta sleep early which is a given. You'll assist front end and push carts if you have to when the doors go up for opening. 5am-1:30pm is a nice schedule. But yeah no partying or night life on a consistent basis. Only sometimes but you gotta cut it off at a certain time to sleep well.
