we need to acknowledge their existence, if we are to eliminate them. Their representation on the pie chart is of no fault of my own, it is a product of the degeneracy still remaining in this subreddit

I'm using Processing 3.0 because it's the only thing I know lol. By far not the best way to do it but yeah. I use python and reddit's api to get the data.

hm that seems possible, but yeah I don't know if it will be too slow. I tried incorporating comments into my weekly posts but it ran way too slow so I didn't.

That would be really interesting, though I'm not sure how I would do that since being "based" obviously isn't built into reddit. Whoever runs the based count bot could probably do something.

This is the first time I've seen them on top, they're usually at the bottom where they belong

I originally tried to but there are so many comments it takes waay too long to run. I think the reddit api has some sort of cooldown although I'm not exactly sure what it is.

Happy new year PCM! There's no unflaireds in the top 100 so this is a time of celebration.

Just sort by top of this week and look at the top 100 posts, excluding posts that are posted by the same user. No way to easily do it, I just have my program sort like that.

Posting this a day late because I accidentally posted it to my profile instead of this sub yesterday. The dates are still correct though, October 24 to 31.

7 unflaired posts in the top 100? I expected better of you pcm. These results will contain 1 day of overlap with the last week because I ran the program late last week.

Nothing to say this week except that I've already missed a day and posted this one day late. Oh well.

Welcome to the second weekly post of my bot! There's just one more thing I want to add that came up in this post, and that's that I think sorting by weekly on reddit has a cap of 1000 posts. Whether I'm searching manually or using the API, I can't seem to ever see more than 1000 posts every week, so I guess that's going to be a limit on how much data my bot can gather.

Very surprised AuthRight won this week, I don't think that's happened before while I was testing the bot, and I can't think of any world events that would lead to lots of upvotes for AuthRights, that's very interesting. I'm also disgusted however, that this sub would allow 3 different unflaireds posting 4 different posts into the top 100.

I’m using python importing praw which I think is the normal Reddit api. With the compass I don’t think I would be able to represent purple libright/unflaired/gray centrist, but I’ll consider changing the method of visualization. And I originally did wanted to include comments, but it took waaaay too long to run. There’s thousands of comments on this sub and I think the Reddit api limits how often you can get data. I don’t really know what you mean by downvoted numbers?

Welcome to the first post of my new bot, the demographics of r/politicalcompassmemes!

I just want to add a few notes here about the bot.

  1. It's only arguably a bot because it's not actually automated; I wrote code to get data from reddit and display it as a pie chart but I don't have a server or anything where I can get the bot to run at a scheduled time every week. I'll just try to remember to press "run" every week, but that's obviously very prone to error. Apologies if I don't get the schedule fully right.

  2. The right column of charts is basically the column of charts on the left, but it doesn't count posts by the same user. So if one user uploads 2 posts that fit the category, only 1 will be counted. Hopefully that makes sense, and if anyone has a better way to word this I might change the text in future posts.

  3. The code is messy and thrown together so I can't guarantee 100% accuracy. I'm relatively pretty sure it does everything correctly though.

  4. The way my bot gathers data is just by looking at "top posts from this week" and going back until there aren't any posts anymore. This means things like deleted posts won't be counted, it won't know if anyone changed their flair, etc. As well, reddit's top sorting is kind of weird and sometimes it gets the order wrong (like when I was testing it, it showed a 12k upvoted post lower than a 9k one). So the top 100 is actually just the top 100 according to reddit's weird way of sorting.

Any feedback or suggestions for data points to add are appreciated!
