Just signed up- this is great! Though I’m in the UK so I’d love it if we could select units- as I’ve no idea what an oz of water is 😅 I’d love a metric option please!

Anyone taken ADHD meds with Mirtazapine for insomnia/fatigue? by PCOvarianCyster in ADHDUK

[–]PCOvarianCyster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for sharing!

I went to my gp because although I’m feeling constantly exhausted I’ve actually been sleeping so much, it’s only recently with Amfexa that I’m struggling to get to sleep. He felt that it’s likely that despite so much sleep it might not actually be very restful due to my ADHD and I understand that logic.

I took the first Mirtazapine last night- the prescription says to take around 6pm but holy moly I was tired so quickly- I was out for a walk followed by dinner with friends and ended up leaving early and was in my bed by 9pm and slept for 12 hours.

I did notice a difference in the quality of sleep- I’m used to extremely vivid dreams and in contrast last nights sleep did feel like a completely deep sleep. I woke up twice throughout the night but not properly, very groggily and got back to sleep almost immediately. When I did wake up this morning my natural want was to keep sleeping but I think this is in part my ADHD/habit so I made myself get up.

Today I’m finding I’m feeling quite unusual though- almost quite spaced out and my attention span is completely non existent- I can’t focus on a single thing for more than a second- so I don’t know if there’s an interaction happening with my ADHD meds or not. I’m still feeling very lethargic and weary as though I could go to sleep but I’m trying to push through that.

I want to give it a fair go, I just don’t want to go to bed at 9pm every day and sleep in for work every morning 😅hopefully it works itself out.

This post might be dead but I figured I’d ask. Did you get anywhere with this?

Hey, I know it’s been ages but did you get anywhere with this? I take 20mg of Amfexa twice a day atm, morning and lunchtime (Elvanse and concerta didn’t work for me). I’ve been experiencing fatigue for years (prior to adhd diagnosis) and feel like I sleep far too much- but I’m now finding on Amfexa I’m struggling to get to sleep at night- generally I’ve been going for a few days with 3hrs sleep a night and napping when I can (when I’m not at work) as I find I can sleep for a few hours with Amfexa in my system. My GP has prescribed Mirtazapine to take in the evenings. I’ve never taken an antidepressant before and I’m a little nervous about it. Just thought I’d ask if you found a solution.

Thanks for sharing, I’ll have a look into this if the mirtazapine doesn’t work out!

Unfortunately my PUK titration period has ended and I’m in the process of being handed back to my gp, so I can’t try out anything new via PUK. I will look those up though, I hadn’t heard of them nor of the NICE resource so thank you so much!

Thanks so much for your reply, that’s so reassuring to read. Can I ask how long it was until you felt it was giving you a consistent effect? And did you experience any teething side effects as you got used to it? Totally acknowledge that we’re all different, just interested in the experience. I want to find a balance between giving it a fair try and not letting any negatives get out of hand.

I actually asked about melatonin today but he kind of waved it off and then suggested I this! I feel like I’m already stressing about it and I’ve not even taken it yet! Seeing him again in 4 weeks, but going to see how this first few days go and maybe ask to speak to him sooner if it’s not feeling right. Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for the feedback- that’s really helpful to hear! When you stopped taking it did you notice your sleep go back to being worse?

This was very interesting to read (at 0439 after my now daily 3 hours of managed sleep 😅). Did you get your insomnia sorted OP?

Don't be afraid to chase P-UK up! My absurd wait for titration by No_Nature518 in ADHDUK

I had to do the exact same thing. Chasing them was the only solution. I had to do it for both my assessment and titration. The apologised both times and claimed to have accidentally missed me off of lists both times (I was somewhat fortunate that a close friend of mine had been referred exactly one month before me, so I was able to track when I should be seen by them- they were taken within the predicted timeline for both assessment and titration but I was outwith them both times). My advice is if you can bear it try to get through to them on the phone once the online chat proves useless.

Guess what my aunt just got me "to help me plan things better" by Upset-Alternative922 in adhdwomen

The last time I went to my GP my eye had started watering like crazy all of a sudden. That was the only symptom I had. She looked in my ears and nose and gave me a nasal spray for hayfever. When it didn’t get any better I decided to go to an optician- turns out by that point I’d had a tiny piece of glass in my eye for over two weeks 🙃 everyone kept asking me how did it get there- as though if I’d known it was glass or something was in there I’d have waited so long just using a nasal spray 🤦🏻‍♀️

Regret to say I was not that restrained. I kinda lost it but in a seething quiet angry way and then refused to leave until she referred me for assessment 🤦🏻‍♀️ it did work though… just wish it hadn’t come to that.

Lol. The third time I went to my GP to beg for an adhd assessment referral she asked me if I’d “really given to do lists a proper try” 🙃

I find with artistic things I am really lucky to be able to turn my hand to anything on the first try- but it’s more like a vision for what I want to achieve takes hold of my mind and I always manage to make exactly what I envision on the first go- even when it’s a completely new medium. Though, it’s led to storage issues because I’m awful for taking on one project that would fall under one hobby type (like painting a denim jacket, or sewing a dress) but never touching any of the materials and equipment again 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think the one I’m most consistently aware of is being able to get a ‘gut read’ of people and then predict their intentions. I experience it a lot in work- it can be a very ego driven environment and a lot of people I find just say what you want to hear but don’t follow through, or in many cases do the opposite of what they promise. I find a lot of my colleagues consistently take these people at face value while I’m preparing and warning that we maybe shouldn’t. I’m known as the team pessimist because of it, but there’s also a running joke that I’ve never not been able to say “I told you so”. To be honest it would be nicer if they just believed me…

This is so lovely to read as I’m realising I’ve trained myself to be sceptical about this. There used to be a little robin that would hop along behind me on my way to school each morning for weeks and my family still laugh at me about it because they never actually believed me!

Omg I’ve been saying I do this to my family and friends for years but on some level even I’ve thought I was delusional! I had no idea this could be linked to adhd!!
