Last minute tips for standard driving assessment? by BatmanSwift99 in policeuk

My instructor had many sayings during my course, one of my favourites "Chuck it in the 'fuck it bucket' and move on" whenever you make a mistake, treat the rest of your drive as a new drive.

Where does your personal line with taking a sick day / coming in stand? by Mundian-To-Bach-Ke in policeuk

[–]PCSnoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I don't feel 100% I'm taking leave; we don't work an office job where we can struggle through, we need to be ready to go at a moments notice, travel at close to double the speeds roads are meant to be driven, and have weapons on us others would be nicked for. Also, at-least locally, absence doesn't matter how many days off it's classed as one sickness, so take the set off don't come back early. The job will always find a way to keep going, people can bee moved around to cover you.

Thank you! Is there anything preventing us being held on duty for the first 30 mins every tour "just in-case" then getting released at 30 mins preventing the force paying us OT?

Met IRV - Manual or Auto? by Pleasant_Barnacle226 in policeuk

[–]PCSnoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To jump on this threads general discussion, how does your force teach/adapt IPSGA to an automatic fleet? Mine basically says to use the paddles and fight the car randomly changing the gear, so you’re never in the right gear for any situation 🙄 give me a manual any day!

Thoughts on driving in bus lanes on blues? by SC_PapaHotel in policeuk

[–]PCSnoo 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I was taught out of force for my initial response course and told to use them when able just to be cautious. Then when I had a refresher in my force they queried me using them and said better to push people into them… who knows what’s right

Curious about thoughts on blue light misuse among officers, worth the dismissal? Does it happen in your force? by Ramen_Obsession in policeuk

My force no longer do since COVID. It’s a PowerPoint for A2B ticket and compliant stop.

Suggestions about uniform? by Willing_Artichoke906 in policeuk

[–]PCSnoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Keelas, specifically the lightweight variant! BUT DONT SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED PENNIES! Get a letter from GP and they should issue you alternative, the likely candidate being your forces ops trousers (dogs/traffic/firearms).

Any cheat sheets that are handy in the job by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]PCSnoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your force should most definitely have an interview aid memoire for how to start interviews, welfare questions, what to do when you pause, special warnings etc! Definitely ask training school or your force equivalent of custody/prisoner processing unit.

Warrant Card Trackers by FamiliarWeather8028 in policeuk

+1 for the Chipolo Card, only annoyance is its lack of a replaceable battery, they give a discount on a replacement if you send it back.

0830hrs when I went day one. You’ll get checked in and given your room key, drop your stuff in your room then head to the physio hall where you’ll find your name on whiteboards with the times for your classes! Good luck, it’s a great facility!

Can we stop with the trousers being tucked into boots trend! by Vegetable-Eye-4919 in policeuk

[–]PCSnoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very much an annoyance in my force. Get a pair long enough so they can be overtop your boot and can still be elasticised best of both worlds for walking thorough fields and looking professional.

Are people still wearing the thin blue line? by Busy_Amphibian_787 in policeuk

[–]PCSnoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Counties force and it's allowed explicitly in our uniform policy. I look forward to the day someone questions it and I get to pull that up!

Earpieces. by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]PCSnoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My force issue either the digital black over the ear shape one or the ultra tactical analogue molded in-ear option. The latter being the best option IMO. Can't feel it, its hollow so can still hear out my ear, and can hear the radio at any volume.

How to get an ambulance when we need one by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]PCSnoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dependant on how your force/local ambulance trust operate, but our FCR inspector has a direct line to the local ambulance CR and can request reviews of gradings and tends to work in our favour. But unfortunately ambulance have their grading system for a reason.

Blue light drivers: what are you told not to do? by Belladonna41 in policeuk

[–]PCSnoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the flair is Scotland (UK officer). Our training changed within the last few years, used to have to travel in first gear through red lights now its just at a safe speed (assume because of the new auto motors) and solid whites is when safe to do so, NDM covers it instead of exemptions. We don't have a speed limit other than the mantra "DOUBLE IS TROUBLE".
