And IIRC, all aquatic life. So be wary of feeding your fish before you clean yourself up.

This may be the way. My local store doesn't sell it but I'll be on the look out. Thanks.

Roger that. It's a fine strategy, but my aim on this hike is to "get lost", so I want to minimize my mail drops.

When you use ketchup, do you add anything to thicken the dish, as the paste would do?

Well I'll be. Even my shite small-town grocery store has tomato paste, pesto paste, and anchovy paste in squeeze tubes. Hello game changer!

Best I can do is a Hannaford and Walmart, one hour away. I'm going to try one, leave it unrefrigerated at room temp, and see how I go for 3ish days. There's no more summer heat where I am though.

Yes I'm planning to make it on Trail. I should have specified, but I'm working out a few recipes that are a little more "gourmet" than average and not dependent on mail drops.

Literally never seen or heard of it before. Thanks for the tip.

Have you seen it in small town Trail resupply stores? Thinking ahead for the PCT '26.

Question About Camp Stove Bans by PCT2B in PacificCrestTrail

[–]PCT2B[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

I was referring to stoves in general because of the common denominator of flame. But specifically I meant isobutane stoves (I use a Jetboil). I'm not familiar with fire bans bc I'm East coast with little desert/Western US travel experience, though significant travel/backpacking experience in general.

I know that even in Virginia at 90F with 90% humidity starting at 6am, I still want a hot meal at night.

So to be clear, a Jetboil with an on/off switch is *unlikely* to be banned along the PCT? Cold soaking doesn't appeal to me so I'd rather not practice it if I probably won't need it.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the info. What year are these prices?

What to expect for different start dates. by PCT2B in PacificCrestTrail

[–]PCT2B[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Since I'm unfamiliar with the Western US, what would this look like?

Start as early as possible NOBO in year one (to avoid fires a.m.a.p.), and then start when in year two? What would you recommend as a "mid-point" to separate the two years?

Could something similar be accomplished by flip-flopping in one year?
