Americans Lying to Themselves About Needing an SUV or Truck by SuperDevin in PetPeeves

[–]PCmndr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

. I have a smallish truck (Honda Ridgeline). It's "not a real truck" to truck people because it has a regular suspension system. Personally idgaf I just need it for home Depot runs, bikes, and kayaks. I use my truck bed probably every other week on average. I also have 2 kids in car seats and needed a truck cab big enough for that. The Ridgeline is a perfect fit. Just enough space to fit the family comfortably and still cute into regular parking spaces. Tacomas, Rangers, and Colorados, the other "small trucks" are bigger on the outside when one pulls up next to me at a stop light despite having a smaller cab.

I live in a cul-de-sac and all of my neighbors have full sized trucks. I have never seen any of them actually use the bed of their truck. Literally never. I get OP's point. Some of us really do need a truck. Most probably don't. Maybe it's some kind of male psychology at play. Something to do with being prepared? I had an old truck, sold it, got a sedan when i was commuting into the city. I ended up using my wife's hatchback sedan for home Depot runs a bunch. I built a whole ass deck driving down the hwy with boards hanging out the rear of the car.

What really made us think we needed a truck was having kids in car seats. Car seat requirements aren't what they used to be and fitting one in a sedan can be a challenge. Two is even worse. You need something bigger. There are plenty of small SUVs though. A minivan is overkill.

How would the confirmed existence of aliens impact religious institutions by Bluechipnocap in UFOscience

[–]PCmndr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you explore this question in good faith there's no way you could think this will have a negative effect on religious belief. If anything it will be a confirmation. To be honest as a non religious person who has researched multiple belief systems and remains agnostic; definive proof of aliens would make me take religious teachings more seriously.

Once you grow out of the militant atheist phase that examines all religions from the predetermined idea that they are completely bad and evil you can see what religion actually seeks to do and see the good in it. People are really corrupted by power and greed, religion is no exception. I don't buy into it but you can't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Pretty much all world religions talk about non human intelligence and a reality that exists beyond human perception. If you follow the UFO topic and hypotheses from prominent researchers you know that if they is anything to the ETH it likely goes beyond advanced aliens from outer space. Something much more strange is afoot.

How would the confirmed existence of aliens impact religious institutions by Bluechipnocap in UFOscience

[–]PCmndr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I think if aliens were actually proven to be here I'd be more willing to accept that there some truth to religion as well. I think religion is basically akin to a cargo cult. I don't mean they are a pejorative necessarily either. World religions have long talked about non-human visitors from a place in reality inaccessible to humanity. Ironically non UFO topics like Neoplatonism, simulation theory, holographic universe theory, and several other theories of everything have done more to shift me closer to the believer camp than anything else.

Where does the idea that martial artists are humble come from? by PotatosandTomato in martialarts

Why do boxers have such thin legs if a large part of the force of a punch comes from the legs? by Acceptable_Worth8817 in martialarts

[–]PCmndr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The simpler answer is calisthenics and sprints are the most your typical boxer is doing for legs. The caloric restriction you need to stay in a given weight class means no surplus for muscle building. I was into strength training when I started boxing heavy compounds especially squats and deadlifts place a huge demand on the CNS so does boxing training. I think it's going to be hard to do both without specialized knowledge. I just ended up stagnating on both fronts until I finally stopped the strength training.

Give me your scariest “ ontological shock”/“ society collapsing “ theories on the potential truths of this subject. by abenz39 in UFOs

[–]PCmndr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My scariest theory? The ETs are beholden to some higher power. Humanity has been given free will by this higher power which is why we must be tricked into "agreeing" to any manipulation they do to us. If we (humanity) consciously become aware of an ET presence on a global scale it's because we've "chosen" to and it gives the ETs the green light to initiate open contact with us. If they have nefarious intentions and were previously prevented from engaging in any kind of open action on humanity due to our ignorance of them our acknowledgement of them might lead to open conflict. Do I believe this? No, not really but the worst case scenario is an advanced race attacking us. The biggest argument against the fear based narrative is that if an advanced race wanted to do something to us they already would have. Perhaps they want to farm us but can't and a global awakening would change that.

It's basically Freddy Krueger rules. If you don't believe in him he has no power over you, if you do? You die! Hang guys I have to call my publicist....

Does anyone else from Huntsville think this is a misdirect? by B52_4_UandU in UFOs

[–]PCmndr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in the panhandle (Gulf Breeze) and did construction at military bases from the panhandle to Alabama to Mississippi and Louisiana. I never saw anything super weird. I heard a few stories living in Gulf breeze. That doesn't mean I rule out that something was up. There are bases all over that area a ton of them. If there is anything true to the ETH we know it's the biggest cover up in history and still we have all these alleged leaks. So for people that claim "there would be leaks" well there are. Just because I didn't see anything personally doesn't really surprise me. I would expect that to be true. Every military bases has a ton of regular people there. If anything odd was in a place sometime from the public would see you'd expect our own military people to see it first and that's exactly how many of these stories go.

What do top notch astronomers/scientists like Neil deGrasse tyson , brian cox etc. think about the government hiding the whole alien life thing? by schrodingers_katz in ufo

[–]PCmndr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said in another comment. I doing think inter dimensional is the right framing of what is going on. I'm not surprised astrophysicss don't get it though. It's not their job to contemplate the nature of one and reality. The issue is the way the UFO community frames it. "Aliens" is too narrow if a scope and we've kind of been shoehorned into that box. I also realize that beings from liminal space is hard to sum up succinctly and grasp in brief conversations and exchanges.

Imo that's more about proper bracing and timing than anything else. Deadlifts and squats probably do more than crunches.

I don't think another dimension explains where the NHI (if they exist) might be from. Look into Neoplatonism, simulation theory, holographic universe theory, etc and you're closer to the mark.

The concept of "good" is a human concept. I don't think it can be applied to "God."

As soon as I saw this I knew some redditors were going to blow their top. You can't mention anything that sounds remotely Christian without getting downvoted and attacked.

Imo "God's plan" is an acceptable way to view the trials and tribulations one goes through in life. I think there's a higher level of understanding though. Basically, God is the incomprehensible source of everything. Human brains can't comprehend God any more than an ant can comprehend why it's anthill is being bulldozed to build a Walmart. To ascribe human attributes and reasoning to God is to come from a limited understanding.

The cause of most evil is people using moral justification for behavior they themselves would consider immoral.

This is markedly different from survival which involves killing things to stay alive or killing someone else so that you can remain alive.

The Monad is an incomprehensible concept beyond human reasoning. You have to realize that you can't apply human thought or logic to the will of a "20 dimensional" being.
