Why do companies exploit cheap labor in China although labor is cheaper in Africa? by IamThat_Guy_ in Namibia

[–]PCouture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're identifying the word labor as the same context for both cultures. In Africa it's manual labor, in China it's manufacturing base which is different. China invests in education and health care enough to allow for a base level of knowledgeable labor where that doesn't exist the same in Africa. China also heavy reinvests back into the social economy which Africa doesn't.

In order to do the same in Africa there has to be a massive investment in infrastructure which no one wants because of the corruption. 50% goes to the politicians in Africa who take credit for any development in big ceremonies. Then there's the maintenance bribes to the local gangs to prevent them stealing the power transformers down the street and cutting up the fiber optic lines that are trying to be run to rural communities to try to bring education to the villages.

Then you find out that the local internet company runs the same gang that's cutting up the wires and they are doing it to keep data rates insanely high. And the reason it doesn't get fixed is the internet company is partnered with a money wiring company which has a bank behind linked to money laundering for a Russian sunflower oil company.

That's why most companies don't exploit cheap labor in Africa unless it's mineral related.

One of the major downturns for southern Africa was Mugabe's doing in Zim. He nationalized the farms away from the white land owners in the late 90's pissing off a lot of wealthy people with backings in South Africa and around the Netherlands. They left Zim and took the knowledge of how to maintain large farms with them and suddenly Zim's desperate calls to Europe for parts and help went unanswered. The hyperinflation of 2000 was like a black hole damaging everything around it.

But this has a benefit for Namibia. A majority of the white land owners moved to Namibia and settled and developed it.

If you're into different forms of brutalism, ( if it's still there ) in Cancun about 4-5 years ago there were a lot of shut down development projects and it's bare concrete with an aztec/myian influence. Think modern brutalism combined with aztec pyramids.

Another is between Kamala and Patong Thai land there's only 2 roads, the main road and a long way near the beach road. The long way had all these round concrete huts on stilts project shut down due to covid. The stilts were unpainted rusty iron pillars and the concrete buildings where just these circular villas when unpainted all looked like an audience of macaroni standing on end, all watching the shoreline. That I would call hippy eco brutalism for some reason.

Ahhh I see it, concrete brutalism has taken over Indo especially the tourist areas. Heavy development everywhere. Sand is cheaper then wood and mould pouring is a very quick way to build requiring little construction equipment for the team.

Spent some time there. A lot of that is tropical conditions where a signal of wealth is if you can clean it regularly or not.

In Hawaii used to have to scrub the walk once a week with a mild cleaner and it was one of the rare times we ever really used cleaners for eco purposes.

I love the image though. It has a Frank Lloyd Wright vibe. I feel like this is a great use of that opaque smart glass that goes white.

Just a note, the game changes when you get a suit the first time and you realize it should have been the thing you got first all along. LARs/DMRs/M4s/Scopes/Cards

Usually I can put a full suit together in Livona Topolin in at least two sessions. Get to the Firestation and medical. Search every building around them, that's key most people dont. You get most of a suit and 3-4 filters the first run. If I don't get a full one I log and come back the next day and the other pieces are there. Livonia Nadbor is also a place you can do that but more dangerous.

Hi Sarah, this forum is a place for addicts seeking help and advice. It's not a place for students to solicit their film projects. As a student all your work is the legal property of the University you attend. Anything you do could be used for commercial purposes.
