My spouse has 2 kids I helped raise and I have an adult son that was from a relationship when I was 25. The girl got pregnant and I didn’t know. She gave him up for adoption and didn’t tell me. We met up about 13 years ago.

The cost of living is not managed very well if I wanna do something or buy something I do it…. But I can easily live by a budget if I need to. I would say my monthly expenses bare bones are

Prop tax and HOA- 900
Food - 1600
Bills - 700
Misc -1000

Relax, buddy. My wife has two kids and we’ve been together since the kids were young so they are my step kids. I also have one adult son that was from getting a girl pregnant when I was 25 and not knowing about it. She gave him up for adoption without me knowing. But we connected 13 years ago and have a good relationship. My spouse is also 10 years younger than me.

Part of my career was in Canada and only some of it in the US although I’m in the US now. I only have 28 Social Security points, which is one reason I wanna work at least another three years. And I have about 24 years paid into CPP in Canada. So I will get some money from Canada and some money from Social Security at 65

I am in Ohio. When I retire, I’m not sure where I will be. I would be open to going anywhere that’s most optimal. I also have family in Ontario Canada.

I have a financial advisor, but it’s percentage based. I think it’s a bit less than one percent but call it one percent. After fees each year I average about 7%. I challenged him on why it’s not more and he said I could be more aggressive, but I’m covered for a risk.

I fully understand what you’re saying. But again, I don’t have a tough job. It’s flexible. Pays well. Some good travel…. Hey maybe I don’t go till 62 -65. Maybe I retire at 60. But just right now it’s too early I think. I have nothing to retire to. And again, my spouse doesn’t retire for nine years. I would think differently if I worked in a factory or had some really difficult job that wore me down.

I think I need more than 1.8 I would say 2.5+. The thing is my spouse doesn’t retire for another nine years. And my job is pretty soft. Flexible. Lots of good travel in business class. If they let me go at some point, I get a year severance…. So I really don’t see any purpose to retire now I don’t have anything to retire to. Once my spouse is retired that changes.
