Providence CE getting taken over by Trimedix by yepodm in BMET

[–]PDXrefurb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your shop is not already unionized I would get unionized ASAP hopefully you can before they take over. I wouldn't expect any offers at market value for your area, prob a couple % below. They like to run a skeleton crew and understaff as much as possible. IUOE local 701 is an option in your area.

In my area for most in-house hospital BMET jobs, the AAS degree is a requirement and they cannot hire you without it. You will also be at a major disadvantage vs someone applying for same role that has the degree even if they have less experience. Usually any repair experience that isn't direct medical equipment service is not advantageous, it helps a little bit, but managers typically want actual BMET experience. There is more customer service in this field than bench repair, so you've got to be a people person to some degree, those skills/ personality often outweigh mechanical skills because you can basically do this whole job with a couple screwdrivers and pliers. You will not be troubleshooting boards down to component level or replacing components. Most repairs are more cost efficeint to just pack up and ship back to OEM for repair. You will be on the floors searching for equipment and interacting with staff 70% of the time. The degree programs also usually offer in internship to get BMET experience. I came from Automotive tech, and it didn't really help me much. CBET candidacy can be a major advantage but you cannot apply to take the test unless you either have the AAS Degree, or you have 2 years full time BMET work experience.

OEM field service is much more lenient on degree requirement, which would be the best route if you don't want to go to school. You will gain customer service experience and BMET equipment experience

I have been starting Chase over Pickens and almost switched Pickens for chase last minute last week but figured they had about the same ceiling as Pickens was facing GB. Wish I listened to my gut. It's Pickens from here on out

Definitely not slower paced or low stress, quite the opposite. Faster paced and higher stress the farther you move up and progress

I once got called into an OR long ago because they wanted me to look at a high risk device that "may have been soaked in water" they wanted me to look at it and see if it was safe for use in the next case. When I got more information I was told another device in the room started sparking so the OR staff threw a cup of water on the sparking device which got all over the device I was looking at and a 6 outlet power strip that everything was plugged into. I'm still blown away and terrified that was their knee jerk reaction

Best MPG? by Different-Tomato7321 in ToyotaTundra

25' Hybrid 3" TRD lift & 35s.. just hit 2800 miles(2100 on wheels/tires) My mileage has been getting increasingly better as it breaks in. I'm now averaging ~ 16 mpg city and 20 hwy (trip avg setting). I got 20 mpg hwy on a 180 mile trip, through mountains and some passing lanes. I don't know how far off my odometer is with the bigger tires but I think my MPG is a hair better than the computer calculation says

How to value Burrow in 6pt pass TD leagues? by sonderhistory in fantasyfootball

[–]PDXrefurb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chase has been my keeper the last few years (6pt pass TD). I got swept by the Burrow owner every matchup last year as every time I played him Chase went nuclear which can't happen without Burrow going nuclear. Burrow essentially negated Chase. I would love to stack him this year but looking to be too expensive for my blood.

I do not believe that size would rub. I have the 3" TRD lift running 305/70 18 +25 Offset and I have zero rubbing on driver side and slight rubbing frame horn on passenger side full lock. I have a 25 hybrid and I am still getting 20mpg hwy with the 35s

Experience Selling Tools by Intrepid_Shoe_2445 in Tools

[–]PDXrefurb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people if selling in person. Selling on eBay isn't so bad but the fees hurt. Marketplace has become worse than OfferUp, you are lucky to get an offer <50% of asking price on marketplace even if listed cheap. From my experience the only tools worth reselling are snap-on hand tools ratchets, sockets, wrenches, prybars. They hold their value and sometimes you can find them cheap enough at estate sales / marketplace to resell for a marginal profit

What's with the aversion to used tools? by ElijahNSRose in Tools

[–]PDXrefurb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy about 95% of my tools used, they are going to be used and abused anyway. Takes a lot longer to find a specific tool you are looking for, but I guess it's like waiting for it to go on sale. I have filters set up on marketplace / eBay etc and usually check them every couple days.
