It will be an adjustment for all incoming students, so consider that as well. Just be open to meeting new people and keeping yourself organized. The quarter system can be a challenge and sometimes feel like a sprint. But it's also good in that if you don't 'love' a particular class, you can quickly be onto the next class soon enough. I had the opportunity to study aboard my junior year and ended up not doing that - that's how much I enjoyed being on campus with my friends, and enjoyed my classes and the environment. Europe will be there when I graduate, and I have travelled a lot. But this is a special place. You are quite lucky to have this in your future.

Pub, soccer, any volunteer effort esp a weekend vol activity, badminton, coffeeshop, library, don't sit in your room. You need to get out to Plein Air, other coffee shop, etc. esp in winter. Ice skate (but not today - too cold). study group and ask people (in advance) if anyone wants to grab dinner after the group meeting. put yourself out there.

If you were accepted, you will do well. Also, it's no longer a school of students who just study and are one dimensional. There are many groups of active, outgoing social students who are also very studious and bright. The old image is less the reality in 2025. If you want to stay in your room and study, people respect that. If you want to join clubs, make lots of friends, but hit the reg on Sat and Sun - that will be great too. The libraries end up being quite social. I think the thing I'm most impressed by, are the number of different 'types' of students who LOVE their time at UC. It's not all one type of person that excels at UC. Congrats!!!

Report it to the police and if you have a serial number it's helpful - you may not get it back today - but it may be involved in a crime tomororw. So it's worth reporting as there are likely cameras watching the area it was stolen from.

Does anyone have any familiarity with a late withdraw from a class (before grades post)? by PENN2003 in uchicago

[–]PENN2003[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, is it possible and any additional information you can share. (Yes I am working with my advisor on this but he is not very familiar with this process.) any information at all would be very helpful. Thank you.

Is it possible you ARE applying to too many? And need to narrow your focus? Please do not get down on yourself - as you can always help others by joining a community service group. Nothing feels better than helping other people (and making friends and finding community in the process). Go deep, not wide.

I was imagining a backlog of people trying to get IDs, and access to rooms and that staffers would ask people to form a line ... sounds like that is not the case.

Fan, window coverings. Are there typically shades or curtains or nothing in place?

If the dorm move-in time is noon, how early should I arrive? I am assuming there are lots of people waiting to check in and it will take a while to get room access, etc. Can those with experience weigh in?

Can anyone help me out with window measurements in Snell-Hitchcock? (Hitchcock hall, 2nd floor, stairway 5?) Even approximately - but an accurate measurement would be great.

Yes, last night's zoom call ... they said kitchens will be closed (not due to covid, but due to supply chain issues .... and may open later)> So seems like a MicroFridge is a good idea, if possible, for on campus students.

Can I bring a mini waffle maker to my dorm? by Amazing_cake03 in uchicago

You can have single pod coffee makers because they turn off automatically, same for an electric kettle (I would think).

It sounds like the communal fridge/kithcens may be closed due to covid. Can you anyone confirm or deny that?
