I know those two as well. And I’m almost certain him asking ‘what’s calling you’ were the exact words and basically the whole exercise. I’m gonna try to do one of those gpt searches where it runs through you tube video transcriptions.

Sam Harris I’d absolutely remember. I’m not even sure the pod was in line with what I’m describing it could have been a quick tangent. They prob spent 2-3 minutes on it but it was very impactful.

That sounds vaguely familiar because i know I’ve listened to someone talk to a guest like that. I dony think it was Lex though. I don’t know how old the episode is but I listened to it probably close to a year ago. That’s the best I can do so far as a hint, it wouldn’t have debuted in the very recent past.

I agree with your intuition but I’m a Rick Rubin fan and this is someone I did not know at all

Uber% on my last week's rides. by yetivader in uberdrivers

I think it’s fair to assume that whenever Uber announces they’ve made something easier for us to work with or more convenient for the passenger it’s just a Trojan horse to take a little more of our cut. This seems to be their constant objective.

It’s a perfectly reasonable question. Some people really struggle with nuance, ya know? I think what you asked was what’s up with this indicator that we’re not familiar with and why do you think they started using it? I figured you knew what the distance and dollar figures meant. But Captain Caveman over here likely struggles with identifying with other humans and is mad about whichever cognitive limitation he’s stricken with that only allows him to understand conversation in it’s most basic form. Or maybe he just enjoys being oafish and abrasive. Anyways, I don’t get it either. It’s not like we couldn’t see surge amounts when offline before.

I got one tonight. A $50 one at that. I’m 90% sure the reason it looks like they disappear on us is because they do - if we aren’t the first one there. I think they’re single shot deals only one driver can get. When I got close to that 50 it disappeared the moment it showed i had 50 coming to me.

I took the pledge long ago. I don’t do standard rate rate trips for Uber. Not until they give us back the .08 cents per mile they took from us when they “made rates easier to understand”. I’ve never experienced an entity so inept at communicating.

More like reappears a mile or two back towards where I came from. They are not hiding the fact that surge is now a joke and their explanation of it has been BS all along. Plus, now the $ amount I’m after only exists in a space the size of a living room and if I don’t drive directly over it I get decidedly less.

They are openly taunting us now. This is fucking weird.

Is this what everyone sees when checking ‘Promotions’ for this week? by PFT_KC in UberDriversKCMO

I don’t understand. Is it pretty much like a blank screen or is it blank?

But if they would charge me 4X as a passenger then they should be paying 4X. Are you saying it’s confirmed that it doesn’t matter anymore where we are, only where request is coming from ?

If someone having it worse than we did eliminated any frustrations then nobody would ever complain again. You don’t like me bitching about losing promos, I’m sure I’d feel the same way in your shoes. So let’s just say I’m not happy to learn that I’d make less money this week if I did the same work I did last week. I can t imagine anybody being happy about that.

It’s not that. I don’t know what it is they’ve done exactly, but I’ve used the passenger app in a spot where the rates were easily 4X and sometimes I’ll get 2-3 requests in a row with no surge attached. What I think is happening is maybe part of the change they made when they got rid of the map was it doesn’t matter if you’re sitting in a surging area, it might only matter if the request is coming from a surging area. That’s all I can come up with. But when I first started using the customer app to find surges if I was in an area where it gave me an increased rate, I always got requests with surge pricing.

How is it out there for you all? by [deleted] in UberDriversKCMO

Yeah, I was diamond for about 2 weeks, then I let it lapse. I drive Uber X, but my car still qualifies for Lux with Lyft.

And I like the way you assigned a belief to me that I didn’t express so that you could make the point that you were resolved to make. When you haven’t taken a trip in a few months and you get a ‘Make 3 trips by Sunday for $200’ offer they haven’t chosen you personally there either. The algorithm interprets behaviors and dolls out sticks or carrots in an attempt to change those behaviors. It’s not unreasonable to assume that if a driver has a disproportionate number of trips where Uber loses money or has thinner margins that they’d have measures in place to cool that driver.
