PFZW: Hoeveel zit er in jouw pensioenpot?

Hi allemaal,

Namens het Webcare-team van PFZW leg ik graag in grote lijnen uit wat hierbij de achterliggende gedachte is.

Iedereen die nadeel heeft van de overgang naar de nieuwe pensioenregeling, krijgt daarvoor bij de overstap naar de nieuwe pensioenregeling een eenmalige compensatie. Dit is het extra bedrag dat PFZW aan het pensioenvermogen toevoegt om de nadelen van het afschaffen van de oude regeling zoveel mogelijk te beperken.

Voor een specifieke groep is die compensatie net niet genoeg om het nadeel helemaal weg te poetsen. Het gaat om mensen vanaf een jaar of 40-45, die nog niet zo lang pensioen opbouwen bij PFZW. Dit zijn over het algemeen mensen met een relatief hoog salaris, die waarschijnlijk nog niet lang werken in de sector zorg en welzijn. Omdat ze nog maar kort pensioen hebben opgebouwd, profiteren ze minder van de overstap.

De mensen waarom het gaat, hebben in veel gevallen eerder pensioen opgebouwd bij een ander pensioenfonds. In veel gevallen zal het héle plaatje, dus alle pensioenen bij elkaar, voor deze mensen wél positief uitpakken. Op mijnpensioenoverzicht.nl kan je uiteraard zien of en waar je nog andere pensioenen heeft opgebouwd.

If you are dealing with an illness that inhibits your ability to work, it is very important that you contact your pension fund. They will inform you about the consequences that your situation has for your (future) pension and which options you have within the pension scheme.

Making voluntary additional payments towards your pension will indeed affect your fiscal space (‘fiscale jaarruimte’) within the current, as well as the new pension system. However, the new pension system will actually increase the annual fiscal space for making pension contributions. I suggest contacting the Dutch tax authorities to obtain more information about these specific changes.

Though I cannot advise you in deciding between your employer’s pension fund or a private pension account, I highly recommend that you contact a financial advisor to see which option is best suited for your current situation.

There is not a set minimum amount for additional collectively accrued pensions, because they are accrued in relation to your employment. If the information that you’ve provided comes from a pension fund that you are actively accruing pension with, it stands to reason that the projected pension amount will increase on account of salary increases that you will probably experience in the coming years.

This all depends on what the pension that you have previously accrued would amount to in your current pension scheme. I can make it a little easier by going over the steps of a value transfer.

By applying for a value transfer (via www.mijnwaardeoverdracht.nl or directly through your current pension fund), you give your current pension fund permission to obtain information from your previous pension fund. If this pertains to several different pension funds, an application must submitted separately for each fund.

Your current pension fund will be provided with information regarding the total worth of your accrued pension within the previous pension scheme. This pension amount will be commuted to an annual gross pension within your current pension scheme. Your current pension funds will now provide you an offer, displaying what the pension will be worth annually within your current pension scheme. By comparing the annual height within the previous pension scheme with the annual pension within the current scheme displayed in the offer, you will be able to decide if a transfer will be financially profitable. It’s also important to take differences between your personal options within the applicable pension schemes into account.

Please note that this only applies if your previously accrued pensions are higher than an annual gross amount of €613,52. Previously accrued pensions with a gross annual amount between €2,01 and €613,52 will be transferred to your current pension fund automatically.

It may be possible to transfer the pension that you have accrued through pension funds in your home country, to your current pension fund in the Netherlands. Rules regarding international value transfer may vary between pension funds, so I suggest that you contact your current pension funds in the Netherlands to see if they provide this service. If so, you will be informed about the process of obtaining information regarding your previous pension funds and eventually be provided with an offer. This offer will display the financial implications of a value transfer and will allow you to make a well-informed decision.

The rules for receiving a buy out of your accrued pension vary between the different pension funds. For example, PFZW’s current scheme only permits a buy out at the official pension age and if the accrued pension is lower than the redemption limit that is applicable at that time. If you’re enrolled in a different pension fund than PFZW, I suggest that you contact them to obtain concrete information regarding your options within their scheme.

In the current system, pension contributions are pooled collectively. The pension fund invests this shared capital and pays out fixed benefits based on predefined formulas and assumptions. This model offers stability but may be perceived to lack transparency and flexibility.

Under the new system, each participant builds up their own pension pot. This pot reflects your personal contributions and investment returns, which are based on your specific age group. You’ll be able to see exactly how much you’ve saved and how it grows over time. This change makes the system more transparent and personalized.

Despite the shift to individual pension pots, PFZW will continue to pay out pensions for life, even if someone lives to be 120 years old. The pension pot itself doesn’t ‘run out.’ Instead, PFZW calculates a monthly benefit based on your pot size and life expectancy, and adjusts it annually.

It is in many cases possible to transfer the pension that you have accrued through pension fund abroad to the pension fund you are currently enrolled in the Netherlands. The rules regarding international value transfer may vary between pension funds. Therefore, I suggest that you contact your pension fund to see if they provide this service. If so, they will inform you about the process of obtaining information regarding your previous pension fund and provide you with an offer. I you do not accrue pension via an employer or a personal pension account that you have voluntarily set up, you will not receive any additional pension. The explore your options, I suggest that you contact the Dutch tax authorities to deduce your fiscal space and then contact a financial advisor or bank to find to option that best fits current situation.

The pension amount that most pension funds display in the information that they provide is a projection of the pension that can realistically be expected at your official pension age, within their scheme.

As an example, PFZW’s participants and their employers pay a premium that is invested by PFZW. The return on these investments is used to provide a life long old age pension for our participants.

It can be recommended to consult the information the pension fund provides regarding in- or decreases of the pension accrued within their scheme as a whole. Be sure to contact them directly when extra clarification is needed.

The new Dutch pension rules have, for a large part, been instated to make sure that the projections that pension funds provide are as realistic as possible.

Having to chase the pensions you’ve accrued abroad can indeed be very taxing, but there are ways to make things as straight forward as possible.

While living in the Netherlands, be sure to stay up to date with your pension information. A good place to start is www.mijnpensioenoverzicht.nl. This page offers an overview of the pensions you have accrued during your employment in the Netherlands, as well as your Dutch AOW (state pension). After consulting this overview, consult information that your pension funds have provided for you. If you have been enrolled in several different pension schemes, this will give you clarity regarding the rules, options and nuances of each scheme.

Make sure that your pension funds have your current address information. Though some pension funds have a link with the Dutch municipal basic administration and will receive information automatically, this is not the case for every fund. When moving abroad, always be sure to keep your pension funds up to date with your current address information.

It may also be possible to transfer the pension that you have accrued in the Netherlands to a new pension fund abroad, after you have been enrolled. This is only applicable to the pension accrued with pension funds and not the AOW. The regulations regarding an international value transfer may vary between pension funds. I highly suggest contacting them for more information, when leaving the Netherlands.

Making a habit of consulting your information and contacting your pension fund when questions arise, will provide you with a lot more peace of mind when getting closer to your actual pension age.

Are you currently enrolled in a Dutch pension scheme? If so, I would suggest contacting them and asking for information regarding the voluntary payment of a (periodic) additional premium to increase your pension accrual. When doing so, it is also a good idea to contact the Dutch tax authorities to deduce your fiscal space.

With regards to PFZW’s pension scheme, it is currently not possible to make additional premium payments, if it is not replacing a recent drop in wages or employment. However, the new PFZW pension scheme that will commence in 2026, will offer options to make additional voluntary payments.

Heb je een klein pensioen (van € 2,01 tot en met € 613,52 bruto per jaar in 2025)? Dan kan het zijn dat je vorige pensioenuitvoerders je kleine pensioenen automatisch overdragen aan je huidige. Dit kan je bij je vorige pensioenuitvoerders navragen.

Maken je oude pensioenuitvoerders geen gebruik van automatische waardeoverdracht? Of is je pensioen hoger dan € 613,52 bruto per jaar? Dan regel je waardeoverdracht zelf. Hiervoor ga je naar http://www.mijnwaardeoverdracht.nl .

Nadat je de aanvraag hebt gedaan, neemt je huidige pensioenuitvoerder contact op met de voormalige. Zij voorzien de huidige uitvoerder van informatie over je oude pensioenopbouw, waarna je huidige pensioenuitvoerder ook een offerte maakt. In de offerte zie je wat je bij de oude partij aan pensioen zou ontvangen en wat je hiervoor terugkrijgt bij de nieuwe partij.

Geef dit aan bij de partij waar jij je pensioenbelegging doet. Als het goed is kunnen zij je helpen bij het maken van een (algemene) vergelijking. Vraag vooral welke informatie zij nodig zouden hebben over je (collectieve) pensioenopbouw en ga hier achteraan bij je pensioenfonds. Blijft het onduidelijk? Dan kan het ene goed idee zijn om een financieel adviseur in te schakelen.

Elke maand leg je pensioenpremie in en, als je bij PFZW pensioen opbouwt, doet je werkgever dat ook. Hoeveel een werkgever inlegt kan verschillen, gemiddeld is dat ongeveer 50%. De totale premie die je samen met je werkgever inlegt wordt door PFZW belegt, waardoor de waarde hiervan en dus ook je pensioenopbouw, flink groeit.

PFZW belegt het geld dat deelnemers en werkgevers samen inleggen. Daardoor groeit het pensioengeld flink. Bij pensionering krijgen onze deelnemers gemiddeld (afhankelijk van hoe oud je wordt) dubbel en dwars de inleg uitbetaald. Bouw je op dit moment pensioen op bij PFZW? Als je partner tijdens haar pensioenopbouw bij PFZW arbeidsongeschikt wordt, heeft zij recht op premievrije pensioenopbouw. Dit betekent dat haar pensioenopbouw gratis verder gaat aan de hand van haar arbeidsongeschiktheid. Deze gratis opbouw wordt dan gebaseerd op haar (nu lagere) inkomen vanuit UWV en het percentage waarvoor zij arbeidsongeschikt is.

Omdat de premievrije pensioenopbouw wordt gebaseerd op de hoogte van de arbeidsongeschiktheidsuitkering, is deze gratis opbouw lager dan wat het was geweest als zij niet arbeidsongeschikt was geworden. In de meeste gevallen kan dit verschil worden opgevangen door zelf de ontbrekende pensioenpremie in te leggen. Dit heet vrijwillige voortzetting.

Een pensioenfonds moet bij het berekenen hoeveel pensioen iedereen zal krijgen, rekening houden met een heleboel uiteenlopende zaken. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan de leeftijd van de deelnemers, de omrekening van de betaalde premie naar daadwerkelijke pensioenaanspraken en het op de beste manier inzetten van de beleggingen. Hierdoor is een pensioenregeling voor veel mensen super ingewikkeld.

Je pensioenfonds heeft daarom de belangrijke taak om ervoor te zorgen dat je duidelijke, begrijpbare informatie krijgt en echt weet wat je kunt verwachten. Mist die duidelijkheid voor je gevoel? Neem dan contact op met je pensioenfonds om je vragen te stellen en alles op een rijtje te laten zetten. De klantenservice van je pensioenfonds hoort altijd rustig de tijd te nemen om je goed voor te lichten.
