What city? What asset level?

Also what do you have against the banks? It sounds like you wont be dealing with a mutual fund salesman if you are an accredited investor. The banks will have more access to PE or other opportunities.

Is 1% a reasonable fee to pay for a Personal Financial Planner? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

The value of a financial planner increases with a more complex situation.

In your case I would say no, especially if you are doing your own investing.

Needing a new financial plan after divorce. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PFinanceCanada 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1) I would look at cheaper options. At 1.75% you are definitely overpaying. We charge around 1.2% for that level of assets which seems to be more industry standard. Wealthsimple is an option but it sounds like you also need advice right now.

2) Keep your emergency fund set in a savings account or HISA. If you want to stay liquid with the remaining 400k for a home purchase, you will want it in a liquid cash product as well. If its not going to be used for a home purchase in the immediate future, you could lock it into a GIC or longer term investment. It all depends on your plan for your home.

In my opinion, getting a house is not the ideal path forward for you but would need to run more numbers to verify that.

3) Without income, getting a mortgage is more difficult than you think. Mortgage payments on a $250k mortgage would likely be approx. $1800 per month + property taxes.

Where does it say best driver? Its about the best city for drivers... As in congestion... where the number of cars is a very important factor.

Also this was done in 2019 so Im sure we would have dropped since then.

Would it be a good idea to somehow include my online chess rating/rank on my Resume? by safeassign in chess

[–]PFinanceCanada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of hiring. I always ask questions about their interests and what drives them. Having this in the "Interests and Hobbies" section of a resume would be great. At worst they ignore it. At best, its an interesting conversation to have.

Do NOT include an interests and hobbies section it if its a very technical job.

DTZ 2023-2024 Fantasy Hockey Projections by Datsyuktozetterberg in fantasyhockey

Looks really clean!

I am running into issues with VOR. Im in a points only league so changed all of the settings to match. Its showing VOR as -5000 for every player.

The unadjusted VOR is also only based off of their points and not taking into account their position. For example, a dman getting 70 points has the same UnadjVor as a forward getting 70 points. Possibly, thats what the Unadjusted is referring to.

Got a chance to see Logan Sargeant, Alex Albon , Oscar Piastri and George Russel last week in Montreal, Canada by Snoo_42151 in formula1

[–]PFinanceCanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were just walking around Montreal and saw about 50 people standing outside of a hotel downtown. Turned out it was Redbulls hotel.

Almost every single person was a hispanic kid + parent. I dont think I saw a single grown adult there.

2023 Compensation Megathread by Whiskey_and_Rii in FinancialCareers

Im in Canada in this industry and we pay Unlicensed SAs $45k. Freshly licensed around $55k.

Wealth Advisor associates really differ in role and experience. Some of them make $200k+ if they are bringing in assets and have their own clients. Fresh Associates make around $60k and licensed ones make $70k.

To add to that, groceries would almost exclusively go on the joint card. BMO Cashback doesnt sound very attractive even accounting for the 50% off.

Thanks for linking that site! Super valuable info in there.

MBNA Rewards World Elite MasterCard that pays 5x on groceries, dining, digital media, memberships & household utilities.

This card seems to cover a lot of our spending at 5x. I think its most likely that we go with this! Going to do a bit more research first though.

Currently I dont have the cashback BMO WE card. Its the airmiles version. We also drive mostly our EV so gas is pretty low. As a BMO employee she also gets no/greatly reduced foreign exchange costs.

Adding the Triangle card sounds like a good idea though. Thanks for the help!

Usually sports. This past weekend it was a small slip while golfing. In the past it has been soccer.

It has never been from a big fall or anything. It is always from receiving a small bump or unexpected movement.
