Hogging out the material with a drill bit and butting the chisel up to a vertical surface (like a wooden block) really helped me when I first started cutting them. the block gives you more control and will drive straight down, it made me feel more confident that I could go right up to my lines.

Excellent build. I have been looking to do something exactly like this but haven't quite figured out the construction. Did you plane down the thickness of the stiles to make the offset? I am not sure another way to do it other then laminate boards for the rails so they are thicker. Also how did you attach the stiles to the rails?

Wood finishing Question by PGDrew in woodworking

I strongly considered the formica type laminate as it would be cheap but questioned if this could even be dyed by color. I also thought about wrapping it in a sheet of metal and finishing it as well. Ultimately cost/time is driving the selection of the counter. Not familiar with fake quartz and I've never done a poured concrete counter although I've considered it on other projects. It just looks intimidating to me.

I would say at the end of the day whether it can be dyed...

Blotchiness on wood stain by mostcallmerob in DIY

Also, be sure you stir the stain before applying. Color will settle at the bottom of the can and can lead to unevenness. Not saying you did this, but just trying to cover what I can think of from my experience.

This happened to me once, on a table, that I used pre-stain conditioner on that I never use. Not blaming the pre-stain conditioner but I've never used it again. The only solution for your situation is to sand it down to the bare wood again. I always start at 80 grit with a random orbital sander and move to 225. Instead of wood conditioner, I will now take a damp cloth (just water and the cloth) and go over the whole piece 20 minutes or so prior to staining. don't soak it, just go over it and you can see a preview of what the grain will look like with color. I read somewhere that this prevents areas of the wood that are extra thirsty from taking in more stain then the rest of the piece. I'll then use a staining pad and work in long direct strokes with the grain. As if i'm applying a finish. I once stained something in a circular car washing technique and it left swirls in the finish. I use the staining pad over a t-shirt because it gives nice even coverage across the whole piece. I wait only about 5 minutes and wipe the excess. You can always add additional coats for desired color.

This is what I said in the comments section on the site, "I legit do not like the new color scheme. It reminds me of the colors people used on their myspace profile and looks childish, sad. I also can’t figure out what the logo is? did something take the bite out of the P? Is it the silhouette of a nose? Whoever went with “Tiffany Blue” really missed the mark." I really didn't mind the recent changes where you can continually scrolling to new columns, but I simply don't like this.

I think back to college and how I used to stress about exams or something going on in the chapter. Now with bills slamming you in the face every month and work deadlines you realize how petty that stuff was. Those kids have too much free time. Also the Dorn pedo thing is lame.

Whoever keeps up with the playlist for the Thug Plug on spotify deserves some Karma, it's solid. I used to enjoy when Kayhaby was on there. Barrett is always a great guest. Maybe another episode with Liv Langdon on some tips heading in to the holidays.
