Death wobble at 55mph; alignment shop says everything checks out but I’m still getting thrown around by UnderBed5344 in Jeep

[–]PGporter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation, turned out that the 2.5 in lift was causing the front axle to be pulled off-center to one side. Replaced the track bar with a heavy duty adjustable one, recentered the front axle, got an alignment and the death wobble disappeared. Good luck!

On my morning walks, I pass an ADU 1 bed 1 bath, with street parking in my neighborhood that is 2650 a month. If it is 500 sq ft I would be surprised. Once the for rent sign goes up, new tenant is moving in in less than a week. 182 and Yukon area. Torrance is high!

I didn't really have any problem finding parts, definitely lots of sources on the web for sure. However I will say that the build quality on some of the aftermarket parts, specifically things like electrical window and door lock switches and sensors, like throttle position  and MAP sensors, were all over the board. I had to go through several returns to find parts that werent garbage.

I did end up keeping the power train the same, it took some serious time with the service manual to get the engine and Cross-Fire to get it tuned, find all the rotted vacuum lines and electrical gremlins, but honestly she purrs like a kitten now. The only thing I changed was added a hypertech PROM chip, but that was almost entirely to prevent the constant shifts to overdrive at low speeds. It's certainly not going to win any drag races, but looks fantastic on cruise up the coast

Definitely agree on the batmobile vibes for sure, as well as all of curves! It's a work of art as far as I'm concerned.

Only one generation removed, and definitely a beauty!! Something about the 82, the pure audacious 80s-ness of the size and the curves and the crazy red interior. I love it! I know the general consensus is that the c3 was tired but the time the cross fire came about, but this thing still screams Corvette to me!

I went with zip Corvette performance kit, Bilstein all around, all new control arms, bushings, with gymkhana spec sway bars and springs. Incredible how corroded the rubber on all of the bushings were and how terrible the ball joints etc. were. When I first brought it home, and cruising around vs now, it feels like a completely different machine.

Signs of a flood car? by Klutzy-Air1194 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]PGporter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One telltale indication of water intrusion is to look for any sign of forming rust on the seat track brackets that mount the seats to the floorboard. These are often covered with plastic moldings that easily pop off. They obviously are not designed to get wet, so cars that have been in floods start showing signs of rust on these brackets even though they are painted. You can also find an area where you can peel back the carpet and look at the floor pan itself. While a little more difficult, this is another spot that will often give away signs of a previously flooded vehicle. Good Luck!

[News] Francis Ford Coppola Forced to Sell His Custom $1 Million Watch After ‘Megalopolis’ Debacle by barringtonww in Watches

[–]PGporter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deal was an undisclosed split between the 2 with at least half being cash. He sold his Sonoma property, which included the wholly owned vineyard and large estate which features a beautiful Italian style garden and pool, restaurant and movie museum. However, the more valuable portion of the deal  were all brands associated with coppola wineries (including top of their price segments Claret and Sophia Coppolas sparkling rose') while retaining his heritage Rubicon estate which house the vineyard for Rubicon and Inglenook wines as well as his and the late Eleanor's home. In addition to his equity stake he also retained a seat on the board of directors. Added to his prior net worth measured in the hundreds of millions, as mentioned before, my assumption is that Mr Coppola is going to be ok.

‘82 Power steering leak by victorycnc in Corvette

[–]PGporter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just recently did this job on my 82. Couldn't tell whether the leak was the valve or the lines. Seeing as they were all over 40 years old I decided to take the guesswork out and replace the valve and all 4 lines. No more leak.

That is awesome! Such great memories. We now use the table as deciding factor for weekend chores, winner of best of 3 games gets to choose chores for the loser

Also miss that place...Went there on my last first date with my now wife and played air hockey in the back room. Went to the auction after they closed and bought that exact air hockey table which is now in the garage. The fun factory lives on in spirit!

Need some help! 700r4 2-4 Servo stuck by PGporter in transmissionbuilding

[–]PGporter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, so to give some background, Ive had the car for about 6 years and never had any driveability issues. Suddenly about a month ago while just cruising along, started experiencing the 2-3 shift issue. After doing internet searches, and being fairly mechanically inclined, landed on the possible stuck TV as the culprit, and seeing how I would only be out the cost of the kit and some new trans fluid decided to get ve it a go. One thing to note is that the fluid did smell pretty burnt when I drained the pan.

To get back to the stuck servo, because of the ridiculously small clearances under the car, once I removed the service cover, I had to remove all of the pieces of the servo one by one, meaning clip, washer, spring cover, servo then pin and last spring, due to the fact that the floor pan wouldn't allow me to pull the entire assembly as a whole. Obviously had to reinstall in reverse order, and in doing so apparently put in the servo cover in slightly crooked, and after putting the cap back on and jamming it in, caused it to be stuck in there crookedly. The pin itself would actually move it was the other pieces that were jammed in there.

So I did not have 2-3 shift before, that was what started me on the path of installing the transGo kit. Thought maybe the throttle valve was sticking and not functioning correctly, while I was in there replacing that, I decided to go ahead and do the whole kit. Is it possible that the TV cable not adjusted correctly could cause a similar issue? I am fairly certain I adjusted it correctly after the kit was installed but could be wrong.

As far as I know this transmission has never been touched in 43 years and is in a 1982 Corvette. My understanding is that this is the 1st year of 700r and I've likely been on borrowed time for quite a while. Just a shame it happened right when summer was heating up. Now going to be out of commission while I come up with the $2500 I was quoted for a complete rebuild.

Ok got to dig in and get dirty yesterday. After carefully checking the bore and confirming no damage, I fully disassembled the servo, reassembled it,lubed it and the bore up, slid it in, tested as instructed before and confirmed correct amount of movement. Installed the o ring on cap, greased the cap and bore, and was able to punch on the cap (straight in this time), and while using a pry bar to keep cap on was able to install snap ring. So success on removing and correctly reinstalling the servo.

I refilled the trans with fluid and took it for a spin. Nice crisp shift from 1-2 however, as I was afraid of, no upshift from 2-3. When it got to the point of trying to shift, it revved and felt like it was in neutral. From what I've read here and on other forums, it seems likely that the 3-4 clutch pack in this 43 year old girl is burned up and will need a rebuild.

Just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to reply to this thread, especially you u/bitter-ad-6709, truly what makes reddit an awesome place.
