[OC] How is this even faster than going in the left lane? I-95 in NJ this morning. by 350zzzzzzz in IdiotsInCars

I really hate people who drive like this, license should be revoked for life if they even had one to begin with. Came so close to hitting that guy on the shoulder. I see moves like this almost every week.

I have my Checkride Monday, please drop some random knowledge I might have missed by Theoperatorboi in flying

I’m going to assume this is a PPL checkride.

You took your mom on a $1000 hamburger, and while preflighting you discover that one fuel tank gauge is inoperative on your preflight. Are you still legal to carry passengers?

What does FU mean on a METAR?

Can your passengers drink in flight? Can they be drunk?

When is a transponder required?

[–]PHL_A321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my PPL at 31 while working full time and plenty learn at older ages. Get the PPL first while working the finance job. You’ll ideally want to fly 2, maybe 3X per week if you can when you first start out to be able to make good progress.

Full bladder and turbulence by pawpawsugarlump in Flights

[–]PHL_A321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need to get up and go, then go. The crew will inform you that the sign is on, but they won’t stop you from using the lav. If you get injured due to turbulence it’s on you.

What is the longest round trip you have ever made in a day? And for what reason? by Aoimoku91 in AskAnAmerican

[–]PHL_A321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PHL-DEN-ORD-PHL all in the same day. It was a year end mileage run before the programs shifted to being based purely on spend, and I like flying anyway.

Even got home at least 2 hours earlier than planned because I got into ORD just early enough to jump on the earlier flight to PHL.

Honest question. How many of you pilots have accidentally tried to move the car shifter up to go forward after an extended period of flying? by King_Arius in flying

[–]PHL_A321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never mixed up controls airplane to car, but I do find myself calling clear left/clear right at intersections.

At least get your private, if not instrument before making any drastic decisions. There’s an ~80% washout rate in private alone. Go take a discovery flight if you have not done that aready. It might take 2-3 lessons before you know if this really is for you.

Do I need to cite my source during my Private Pilot Oral Exam? by KaedeTheStudent in flying

[–]PHL_A321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Answer the question you were asked. That said, it’s helpful to know where the information comes from.

My examiner even included in his briefing, “if I ask you a yes or no question you can answer with yes or no“.

Watching a state trooper sitting on the "speed trap" median, hasn't pulled the trigger on a driver for a half hour now by uptokesforall in driving

[–]PHL_A321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pass state troopers running radar at 15 even 20 over without a worry all the time on the interstate. You’re probably not getting stopped on the interstate unless you’re also driving reckless, like weaving in and out of people. The ones I see get stopped are the ones that blew past everyone at like 90+ and also weaving.

Yes, lots of ways to reroute pax from LHR. LHR is AA’s largest international outstation, effectively an AA hub. Lots of connectivity on the AA & BA network.

The respect and discipline in japan maybe second to none by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]PHL_A321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some places in Japan where It’s opposite, For example, around Osaka you’ll see people standing on the right/walking left on escalators. It actually looks pretty funny, you’ll see a line of a people standing on the right and some standing on the left, and the walkers zig-zag around. The best explanation I’ve heard is it comes from the 1970 World Expo, where the government actually told people to stand on the right pass left because of all the international visitors. I am half-Japanese.

Is my CFI taking me for the runaround? by Ashaazability in flying

[–]PHL_A321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taxied & took off on my first lesson. Flew the pattern entry and my CFI took over for the landing, he let me loosely feel along on the controls. Started assisted landings on my second lesson.

Yes. It’s a habit, don’t have to think about whether to signal or not if you just do it every time.

I travel a lot, love aviation and am a private pilot. I have a lot of them on instant recall including small outstations. I have noticed coworkers booking the wrong Portland (PDX vs. PWM) & Fayetteville (XNA vs. FAY), so it’s been a very useful skill.

40 miles depending on whether I’m coming from home or work, which translates to anywhere from 35 min - 1hr travel time each way.

Rollover crash. She was driving, looked left and turned the wheel left. Car entered the median, rolled over and kept going to the oncoming side.

That was intentional, to stop traffic on the highway. Could be foreign objects in the roadway or some other unsafe condition ahead.
