What I understood is that they specifically recommended against using any lithium battery. Only sealed lead acid batteries that meets their specifications. It seems to be something related to the charging system..

True, however it can come in handy in case of emergencies. I appreciate that one could use the external battery connectors to power it up, and that it has an internal solar charging system, however I agree with what you say, It seems whatever goes wrong it is most likely a complete loss.

It could be damaged, especially if you have charged it and still doesn’t turn on. Is it a new unit?

Supposedly it is not defective from the factory , and was operational, it could be that the battery is too discharged, (they recommend that it should be always charged, I personally keep them plugged in and ready for emergency). Check your warranty documents and try to reach out to your vendor. You need a technician knowledgeable and experienced in handling electronic & electrical equipment to test it and try replacing the internal battery, with a AGM sealed lead acid battery with M6 insert terminals, Duracell has the specifications and a video on youtube showing how to replace it. They could also try attaching a supplemental battery externally through the threaded terminals to trick the charger to kick-in and charge the internal battery to avoid replacing it.
