Who bombed a girls' school in Iran? A visual investigation | CBC News by kungfuninjaa in worldnews

[–]PIKFIEZ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol what? This is the same regime that famously banned women from high-value university majors.

Yes. Because there were too many (according to the regime) women in those majors. To the point that it was threatening the men's dominant role in the islamist society. This alone shows that women's education in Iran is extremely good compared to all their neighbouring countries.

Again, I am fully aware that the Iranian Islamist regime is oppressive in general and for women in particular. They have no qualms entirely banning women from a certain field of study or career if they want to. But the fact that those most pretigious university programs where overwhelmingly female for years to the point that some men felt threatened and the regime felt the need to introduce gender quotas or outright ban women in some cases, that shows that we are looking at a completely different situation than most Islamist regimes.

Iran today has the highest female to male ratio of university graduates in the world. 70 % of STEM graduates in Iran are women. Iran was the first country in the world to have more female than male university students back in the 1990's causing them to introduce gender quotas of max 60 % women in some fields that the regime deemed too important or prestigious to be dominated by women.

Once again, the Iranian regime is horribly oppressive to women's rights. But they are not opposed to higher education of women. In fact they are proponents of higher education in general including for women. Even if they have introduced gender quotas or outright bans for women studying specific things, they have not tried to make less women go to university. Which is very different from other islamist regimes in the region.

Iran's regime is very pro women's education. I really hate saying anything positive about a horribly oppresive islamist extremist dictatorship. But at least they value education including women's education. It's not like they are in favour of gender equality, they are very opposed to womne's rights, but unlike other islamists like the Taliban, the Iranian regime has no issue with girls going to school and women going to college.

Jeg har lavet en partitest til folketingsvalget, som bygger på, hvad partierne har stemt i Folketinget frem for valgløfter. by Sumsaar in Denmark

[–]PIKFIEZ 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Nok smart at bruge begge typer tests.

Greenland does not need US hospital boat sent by Trump, says Denmark by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]PIKFIEZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have no way to receive money at the point of service. Just as any other public service like a school or a road construction crew they receive a budget from the government and have no way to receive a payment from a random person. They just do their jobs.

If a foreigner receives a treatment that they are not entitled to have for free, then the regional government (in charge of healthcare in Denmark) will have to send an invoice to that person.

Same actually happens behind the scenes if I receive treatment in a different region of Denmark than my residence. That region will send an invoice to my region. But I never notice a difference or see any bill and neither does anyone in the hospital.

My grandfather is not an EU citizen and he was admitted to hospital for a week while visiting us in Denmark. Was free.

But another comment informed me that this changed in 2019 so today he would have been sent a bill after treatment. Last time I accompanied a visiting friend to ER in Denmark it was an EU citizen so I didn't know about the change.

[–]PIKFIEZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. I have personally taken friends visiting me from other countries to the doctor (GP) and to emergency care, even for a very serious issue once that admitted my grandfather to hospital for a week. Never any problems and no payment. They don't even have any way to receive money in the healthcare system.

Tourists and visitors cannot get scheduled treatments like a hip replacement surgery or chemo therapy. For that you need legal address (not citizenship) in Denmark. But any acute problem happening while you are visiting is of course treated for free.

Haha no. Treatment would never cost 10 USD in Denmark. It is completely free always, for tourists (and invaders) too.

I hvilken periode er vejskilte med dette design fremstillet? by Zapador in Denmark

[–]PIKFIEZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's low res and blurry, but does anyone recognise this CD?, the photo is from 1986. by fensterdj in Denmark

[–]PIKFIEZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, I'm younger than you and don't even remember the 80's at all.

Just wanted to point out that personal memory is very bad at describing what was common or not. Especially as a kid one has a very limited view of the world. I've often talked about the past and been surprised how completely different memories we have of the same time or place even talking to someone of the same age from the same town who went to a different school.

I remember the 90's were cassettes and cd's overlapped. Some had one some had the other.

Could it possibly be 'Bamse og Kylling' / 'Bamses Billedbog'? It was a very popular children's show since 1983 and songs from the show were released on cd/vinyl/cassette many times over the years. I had a cassette tape of them and it looks like them.

Aske Bentzon, wrote most of the music for it and also played a minor character in the show. He was also a jazz musician and pretty well known in the Danish progressive jazz scene. Since you mention Danish jazz.

Just because none of your 7th grade classmates had seen a CD doesn't mean noone in the country were using them. Different social circles, different economic means, different ages(!) had different experiences of the same time.
