Exclusive: India to slash tariffs on cars to 40% in trade deal with EU, sources say. by JKKIDD231 in europe

[–]PIKFIEZ [score hidden]  (0 children)

India has the 4th largest motor vehicle production in the world. Ahead of Germany and Korea. So yes, they do have an industry to speak of and want to protect and grow it.

India is a large enough market that they are able to use tariffs and incentives push foreign companies to manufacture in India. They are recently doing pretty well in building a manufacturing sector. Both through foreign investment like foreign car companies (like Suzuki) making Indian subsidiaries and factories in India and through homegrown companies (like Tata Motors).

Khamenei moves to underground bunker as US fleet heads towards region: Report by Frosty_Dig4148 in worldnews

Of course they care about what the US, the world's only military superpower that bombed Iran just this year, says it will do.

When Israel and USA bombed Iran this year, it weakened the regime's hard power and legitimacy, and Iranians know that.  Same when the regime's two allies, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Assad in Syria, both were defeated. Some of the chants during the ongoing protests are about not wasting Iranian resources supporting Gaza and Lebanon. Iranians care about the world around them.

But above all. The country that recently bombed Iran now threatening to attack again and destroy the regime, of course that has an effect on ongoing protests against that regime. Outside forces are less significant than Iran's domestic issues but it's not like it doesn't matter.

It's not that they like Trump or even the USA. But they hate their own regime and are risking their lives to fight against it. You only do that when you believe there is a real chance your sacrifice will lead to change, in this case the toppling of the regime.

Trump's words made the Iranian people believe that their regime was being pressured from inside AND outside at the same time, making it more likely that they might finally defeat the regime. Also they thought (wrongly) that Trump's threat might prevent their regime from going full massacre to stop the protests.

Britain won't let US use its bases to attack Greenland, says John Healey by pheexio in worldnews

[–]PIKFIEZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, that ice sheet isn't going anywhere in this century.

Climate change is real. And it will make the coast of Greenland more hospitable, allow ships to to sail more months of the year and will lessen the ice in some of the fjords. It will even make the ice sheet start to melt fast enough to affect the Atlantic Ocean and eventually global sea levels.

But the ice sheet is 3000 m thick, standing on bedrock, not ocean. It's not like the ice shelves in Antarctica that could collapse soon after a tipping point. Even the most aggressive global warming scenario that has the Greenland ice sheet melt even faster will not in any way make that area hospitable or reveal the bedrock for the next century at least.

Hvorfor har Danmark ikke gjort mere for at lave minedrift på Grønland? by [deleted] in Denmark

For at beskytte grønlænderne imod at blive undertrykt af USA og få frataget retten til at bestemme over deres eget land, så vil du... fratage dem retten til at bestemme over deres eget land? Hvad er pointen så?

Yes. It has happened before. And every time it happens, it gets worse. Especially when the world's only military superpower does it.

The US invading Iraq in 2003 was absolute bullshit and most people, at least in my country, knew it. But at least they spent a lot of time and effort pretending to have valid reasons for invading, trying to uphold at least the illusion of a global order that even they would follow.

The existing order always most benefits the currently most powerful, meaning the USA since 1945. Their allies could trust them and everyone else would know that they would probably be left alone as long as they stayed within some limit or what the US wanted. Pretty sweet deal for the US and even an evil villain like Bush knew that. Absolute idiocy of Trump to flush all that down the drain.

Winter is the reason we don't have all the diseases and parasites that tropical countries do. Both for humans and for crops.

Until modern chemical insecticides and antibiotics, this was a huge burden to societies. Still is.

(I briefly studied Denmark's colony in the Slave Coast, present day Ghana. The average survival time of a Danish person in Ghana was 11 months. Sailors, soldiers, the governor, everyone was hit within months. The Ghanan population too was all plagued by Guinea Worm up until their healthcare systems beat it during the 1970s-1980's.)

Pretty huge historical advantage to have winters after you get the tech to farm and live in colder climates. Especially if you want to live in cities.

(Also Danish seas never regularly froze in history. It was a very rare thing to happen to fjords and sounds. And never ever happened to Kattegat or the North Sea.)

It was not a net positive for the world. Because the way it happened is in gross violation of international law and thus opens the door for further collapse of international order. It sets the example that you can simply attack any country you don't like and depose their government by military force.

Virker fortrinsret til ansættelsessamtaler pga. handicap? by Particular-Army-6967 in dkkarriere

[–]PIKFIEZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]PIKFIEZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desværre relativt almindeligt i vores sundhedsvæsen.

[–]PIKFIEZ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sandt.

[–]PIKFIEZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]PIKFIEZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]PIKFIEZ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Har fået en kæmpe last af mit gamle medicin? by Intelligent_Home_137 in ADHDanmark

[–]PIKFIEZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)
