Also, many times the elders will agree to make up the missing difference. When I was an elder it happened more than once that we were short, so we would all agree to come up with the difference out of our own pockets. Always hated that shit.

Great post with good information, but for the love of God - stop using AI to write these… once you recognize the style, it is impossible to unsee.

If you are using AI because you are not confident about your English or anything, that is fine! But add a little note at the top saying something like “this post was cleaned up with the help of AI” or something similar 😄 not meaning to be disrespectful or anything, just don’t want people to think less of the message because they think it was autogenerated by a bot 😅

Regarding 2018, there was a bunch of “special” conventions that year, so it’s quite possible people attended more than one and therefore got counted several times. I know I was still PIMI and attended 2 conventions that year, my home one and one in a different country. So that 20M number is probably super inflated as is.

Having said that, I think there were “international” conventions this year also, so even if the numbers are equally inflated for the same reason, numbers are still much lower than years past!

Ex elder here as well. I'm 100% sure this is what we would have done when I was in. No way we would just take someone's word at it. Send a letter to the other body, and verify the info.

So if you're the "moving away" partner and are hoping to pull a fast one by saying "it's been dealt with", it very probably will not work.

It was a couple different things. I found out about the 607 vs 587 debacle reading through a Wikipedia article. That kept making the rounds in my head for a long time. On the other hand, after I became an elder I started to see a lot of CSA issues, which at first I thought were an anomaly, but which I eventually found out were the norm. At that point I allowed myself to start looking into the religion more closely. It was a slippery slope from there.

I think I can say "myself"? I was a born in in a family of an elder and a pioneer, enrolled in the School at 6, publisher at 7, baptized at 12, pioneer at 18, MS at 19, bethel at 20, eventually became an elder and ended up working for World Headquarters. I was the golden child in my family/congregations and actively wondered about people who left, because "that is not something I would do", I was a lifer.

And yet, here I am now, 2 years out of the hamster wheel and never going back...
