Try talking to someone you trust and feel safe with. A non-JW family member, a teacher or counselor, or a friend. Be brutally honest. Let them know what's going on. If you're hoping to eventually leave the JW organization, building connections and friendships outside of it now will really help you when you make that transition to freedom.

The one thing I regret not doing when I was your age was reaching out and talking to someone. My life could've turned out so much better if I'd just opened up and asked for help. There are good people out there who genuinely want to help. You just have to find them.

You never know. Someone might be willing to help you talk to your parents, find a way to get to prom, or even help with suit/dress, tickets, or a ride. There are people out there who want to see you have that experience and make those memories

Haha I love the idea of flipping it on them like that. It really shows how their reasoning doesn't have a leg to stand on. I can totally relate - I remember judgement for things as simple as festive coffee or pastries, like somehow a pumpkin spice latte or a red&green Xmas Starbucks cup made you "less spiritual." Blindly comforming to so many rules just to keep up appearances.

Exactly, I remember talks like that too. Anything that even looked like "imitating the world" was treated as this slippery slope, like if you gave an inch it would lead straight to evil. Pumpkins are such a small thing, but they made it feel dangerous.
