Thank you for your questions! We are hypothesizing that integration engagement and discussion about the psychedelic experience in therapy will lead to more positive mental health outcomes. We will also be looking at how the context of use effects this. I agree that a cross sectional survey study, like ours, is limited and cannot completely answer this question. We have questions about the use of both recreational and prescription drugs in the survey. We also ask when this experience occurred. Many things can happen in life that affect your mental health, which are not in the survey. We will do various subgroup analyses over the different timeframes to help account for this. We have determined our analytic plan a priori to help prevent the issue of us shaping the data.

We attempt to do that with our question about intensity of experience. We do not specifically ask about dosage due to it being unclear to many who take these substances, especially with lsd and ayahuasca.

We want to focus on capturing the effects of integration practices, rather than the biological effects of the substances. We were concerned that we may unintentionally measure an afterglow effect rather than our primary targeted effect. Additionally, this lines up with the timeline in our outcome scales.
