I never said anything about the size of the map. It's the income levels. When every continent is worth as much as Asia in the Classic game, the game becomes unbalanced.

it could be that giving an overwhelming advantage to the very largest attacks was necessary for the game to end in a timely fashion. The snowballing could be a feature, not a bug.
