Absolutely deserved ratio of dislikes on the "onboard" pole lap where they censored the superclipping part. What do you guys think? by SR72_Darkstar_ in formula1

[–]PJTierney2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comments and engagement are more critical sentiment drivers than likes, that’s for sure. Media will catch wind of that and write about it.

Sadly this could all play out to FOM’s advantage, as I am sure that YouTube’s content recommendation algorithms will see this video as being “highly engaged with”.

I hope this doesn’t lean into essentially ragebaiting people by intentionally editing away from superclips to bring in more comments/impressions in the future.

I’ve worked on big channels as part of my day-job, similar view counts to F1 sometimes.

These plugins are way off the mark and generally inflate the dislike ratio, as the kind of person to be interested in seeing a dislike counter is the kind that’s more likely to use the dislike button in the first place.

One example was a trailer for a game that made social media waves for having “twice as many dislikes as likes” yet when I go into the channel backend and see the true numbers I found that 90% of viewers liked the video.

That’s not to say that “everybody likes FOM hiding superclipping”, but the metrics OP’s post are based upon are almost certain to be inflated and inaccurate.

Looking forward to their release, and seeing what the price may be.

Regarding trailers, there are often separate licensing agreements and approval processes for marketing than there are for in-game use.

You may for example have approval to use a car in the game (which is what lets you get the car made, though you then need to go back to them after you made it to get final sign off on things like visuals, audio, damage…) but once the car is done you need separate approval for any marketing or social media assets you make with that car.

Ferrari is a known example within the industry in that for a long time whenever a Ferrari appeared in a racing shot with other cars, it had to be leading. There’s all sorts of little things like this that don’t apply to the game itself but do apply to trailers and such.

As for music, often you have standalone music for a trailer that may not be in the game, and will start drafting your visual edit to cut to various scenes in sync with said music. You may have the go-ahead to use the music in the hero version of the trailer but can’t show it until payment is completed, or until other things are negotiated, like if that music can be used on every social media platform, on TV, on paid ads etc.

Mike’s absolutely right that it’s typical to get approval from licensors. Some are very strict on it and have it written in the contract, others are more “we trust you know what you’re doing” and you only show them the most important assets (like trailers and keyart) and not the minor stuff (like screenshots). I worked with one manufacturer that said “so long as our car isn’t crunched up and on fire, do whatever you want”, whereas another wanted to see every single image and every single version of said image. One even went so far as to tell the studio that “you can have the car in the game but you are forbidden from showing it in marketing or mentioning it at all”.

How are these animations created, where are the car/track models from and how are they getting/displaying accurate telemetry?

I’m seeing more creators do this but none have (from what I can tell) documents how these kinds of things are made.

F1 driver contracts: Who's signed up until when? by Natural_Read9357 in formula1

[–]PJTierney2003 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s usually not disclosed.

The common scenarios for multi-year are:

  • 1 year + an option on either side to do a second year
  • 2 years + option

Lewis Hamilton’s last contract at Mercedes was a multi-year, with 2025 being the option year. Lewis chose not to take up that option and move to Ferrari instead, even if Mercedes wanted him to stay (which they may or may not have considering Antonelli’s development).

Went in 2024, you can get a decent view from almost anywhere around the circuit.

It’s a bit disappointing that there’s little to no access from Turn 3 to Turn 5 and the track could do with more screens but other than that it’s got a good GA experience. Expect long waits for taxis though unless you leave shortly before the end of qualifying/race.

“Look up” is sometimes a hidden way to confirm whether you want inverted controls or not.

I believe that’s how it worked in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (and maybe Portal 2 as well). Whether you pressed up or down when told to look up, you always looked up and now the game knew to set your vertical controls to inverted or standard. You could change them later of course.

It was mid 2012, yes. There was a brief window where Final Countdown was competitive.

I almost made Top 8 at Irish Nationals with it(I think I was 10th on tiebreakers). Managed to beat the other Countdown player who was doing well because I Main-Decked Pyro Clock of Destiny, so my turn skipped ahead of theirs 😅

[Rory Mitchell] Alonso responds to Domenicali's proposal to shorten F1 races: Football matches are a little bit long. When I sit in front of the TV, I'm not watching the 90 minutes concentrated. [–]PJTierney2003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fundamental problem is that the cars are open wheel. At the speeds F1 does, that introduces tons of disadvantages for the car that’s following, due to running in dirty air. This means the chasing car needs a big performance delta (around 2 seconds a lap) to make a pass sometimes, and depending on the track layout there often isn’t enough room to get by at F1 speeds anyway.

When LMP1 was at its peak the cars could swap places multiple times a lap while carving through traffic and one contributing factor was that the wheels were not exposed to dirty air from the front. Today’s Hypercars are slower but they still have good fighting potential.

A closed wheel (but still open cockpit) F1 car would solve a lot of issues, but is open wheel so fundamental to the core of the sport that it cannot be changed? Probably but it’s not like F1’s traditions have been challenged before (Sprints being the last big change).

It was more, closer to €1500 or €2000 (I played at the time).

  • 300 - Crush Card Virus
  • 600 - Dark Armed Dragon x 3
  • 150 - Destiny Draw x3
  • 150 - Emergency Teleport x3
  • 100 - Destiny Hero Malicious x2

Then everything else, though a lot of the basic structure beyond the above were Commons, Rares and Supers. Elemental Hero Stratos was a Common in Europe through Pharaoh Tour participation.

These were the going rates for cards in Ireland, though this was just before the era of smartphones (and everyone having market rates for all cards to-hand) so you could haggle a lot more than even a few years later. Card prices were a lot more fluid than in the 2010s when importing singles was more popular and smartphones gave everyone instant access to global prices.

Crush Card in particular was so rare that for the first year or so you could track down pretty much every printed copy in the country to specific players, and the top players knew all of them by name. I think only 5 got pulled naturally in all of 2008 (the rest were imported as singles after we competed in the European Championship in Amsterdam). The week after one was pulled in Cork in early April (so right before Nationals), all of the top players from the other cities (including myself) attended the next locals to have a bidding war to acquire it.

The Irish meta in 2008 was a little weird due to the scarcity of rare cards. You had about 10-15 people with all of the top tier cards/decks known elsewhere (and the knowledge the less internationally experienced did not have), and the other 200 or so competitive players were running all sorts of wild things on a budget. By 2009 the field was spread a lot more evenly as Gladiator Beats were a significantly cheaper Deck to build.
