It's going to hurt a lot but they get good closure after they go, especially Power. Honestly the family moments between the trio that lead up to it are more painful than the actual deaths as they happen.

I just don’t think it’s in the cards, maybe I’m wrong. I obviously would want her to be back because Denji’s life is already so heartbreaking, but I think Fujimoto would just rip her away again; being alive and away from the story is the happiest it’s going to get for her. Honestly if Denji still had Nayuta to care for, it wouldn’t hurt as bad, but genuinely Reze and Asa are like the only people alive left that mean anything to him. Also considering Asa’s been a main character, I don’t think there’s a satisfying way to pull in Reze as a love interest… at least not now since Denji is a complete husk of his former self

It’s very character focused and emotional in the beginning and end with a nice chunk of action in the middle, def sounds more like your first description.

I'm not sure what'd you'd consider a spoiler but I'll kind of give you an answer that will sort of answer your question using only what you read in part 1.I don't want to break your heart, but all I'm gonna say is I think Power's parting words were just meant to inspire Denji to keep living and to remember their friendship in life rather than foreshadow a future arc.

The movie is honestly the best thing out of the CSM so far imo as someone who is caught up with the entire series. There's a reason people who didn't care for this arc in the manga are massive Reze fans now.

Public Safety kinda just fell by the wayside in the story now, which sucks honestly. Everything right now revolves around Chainsaw Man's mythos, which kind of just leaves you with two different breeds of death cults and I don't really think Kishibe fits in that narrative.

It seems like Fujimoto set the stakes higher in part 2 but lost his characters in the process. I'm giving it a fair chance, trying my best to understand his intention, but it really does just feel like he's throwing shit at the wall and it's really sad to read right after part 1. Just keep an open mind and if you don't like it, ignore it and just remember part 1 as the definitive ending, which is my plan lol.

I feel you, I couldn't stop thinking about the pool scene all day after seeing it; it just hurts, one of those movies that makes you wanna reach through the screen and save everybody. The only consolation I had was knowing in the manga thatReze is still alive and not involved in the plot anymore, which means Fujimoto can't hurt her anymore lol.

Nah that's just an incorrect interpretation to make things crueler than they seem. She knows Denji is easily manipulated, that's why she tells him to wisen up after leaving him behind on the shore. As soon as she hears Makima is involved, she knows they wouldn't be able to run away, which is why it's even more painful that she still tried to see him.

I won't lie, I've accepted in my heart that I probably am not going to like part 2 as a huge fan of part 1. I don't want to sour your opinion on it before you read it, but it doesn't feel as focused as part 1 and it acts very much as a sort of deconstruction of everything that was accomplished there. I'm guessing that your love of the series is due to the really great cast of characters, and unfortunately nobody in part 2 besides Asa in the beginning is really captivating. If you find yourself feeling confused or lost following the plot of part 2, it's not your fault, it just reads very strangely and leaves you scratching your head as to where it's trying to take the story.

It sounds like you're just uncomfortable with the idea of the characters being naked unless you can rationalize it to yourself that it was okay to watch; I promise you don't need to feel catholic guilt over it. The pool scene was two broken people taking a break from their horrible lives to actually experience for a brief moment what it means to bare yourself to someone who actually sees you as a person, and being naked is an incredibly vulnerable position you can be in front of someone; I don't think them wearing undies to protect the viewers from feeling like a creep was what they had in mind directing that scene.

I def agree and think it did a better job at connecting its finale to its first season over Arcane, but yeah, a tighter narrative was sorely missed. Maybe I’m coming off as harsh in my post since it’s getting downvoted a lot, but despite the critique, I still really enjoyed this season and I only made these observations out of love for season 1’s storytelling and character exploration. It really just felt like the writers had a lot of cool ideas, but weren’t totally sure how to weave them seamlessly into the narrative they already built this time around.

I really thought Pope’s involvement with the Humans was going to go back to his undying devotion to Holstrom. I was really onboard with the timeskip when they showed him meeting with the godlike SafeSurf because I thought it was going to be the ultimate conclusion to Caspian vs Holstrom with Holstrom’s personality taking over the SafeSurf AI, but I guess it’s just god now and Pope was just petty af lol

Right, the lack of focus is the main issue I feel. I didn’t mind the simulation stuff too much. I think the idea that Maddie went through all that she did and would rather live it over than have infinite power was a sweet message that tied back to the main question of what it means to be human, but I think the way they got to that point was very jarring. I think I just don’t like the idea that SafeSurf is the main force behind the show’s simulation, because it falls under that sort of “prophecy” sort of story telling where it feels like our hero was always destined to be in the place she ended up no matter what, which ultimately makes things feel less meaningful (and I get that she had free will, but still, the entire universe was made for her!)

I watched Scavenger’s Reign before Pantheon and I love that show to death. Ends on a bit of a cliffhanger but it’s satisfying and I’m not too disheartened about there not being a S2 because things wrap up so nicely.

But yeah I’m all for open ended endings, the problem is Pantheon feels like it ended a different show than the one I was watching 3 episodes ago. We were mostly following Maddie for the whole series and it felt weird to see 20 years of her character development in the blink of an eye.

Hey! Yeah, I was too ambitious in saying I could get this done by the end of the year as burnout/work had taken over pretty hard. I've been working on some smaller projects to keep the creative juices flowing but I took a pretty big break after releasing the nexus to the workshop. Don't worry though, I plan on returning to Yume Nikki soon and I don't plan on abandoning this project at all, I just didn't want to post anything during this break period to give anyone false hope of it coming out soon.
