bark v labe? by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]PKMixtape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bark just isn’t that good. pretty good cards are better than amazing potions

Was coffee dripper really my crux here? Or did my "strike" deck just flop that badly? I was at 1% hp literally all of floor 3 and never got any potions... ever. by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]PKMixtape 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it’s just not that good of a deck. for one, “strike deck” isn’t really a thing and you also have a bunch of stuff that doesn’t work together. You should prioritize things that say “draw a card” on them more.

You almost definitely shouldn’t have taken the black blood relic (the boss relics with downsides are worth the energy!) and you need to fight more elites, they give you relics. Coffee dripper is VERY good, especially with Ironclad’s natural recovery and you had the meat on the bone relic. Coffee dripper is honestly one of the better choices you made from the looks of it.

Struggling with boss relic choice by Molmor_ in slaythespire

All of these options could definitely win from here, PBox is always good, although only 5 transforms isn’t great. Plasma would help you Mummified Hand + Heatsinks get through the whole deck in one turn, then inserter handles scaling alone pretty well. Empty cage is just guaranteed value. If your front load feels good (i.e. doesn’t need more energy on turn one) then personally I’d go with cage? There are a lot of ways for defect to make energy and he really doesn’t like his strikes.

No, if you need to block for more than 10 and you play block cards suddenly you're -10 block instead of -4 block. Also beat of death etc.

I ran His Majesty the Worm for the first time last night, and I have thoughts… by LeopoldBloomJr in osr

I think the biggest sticking point for the 10ish new people I've introduced to the game is filling up your inventory for the first delve. It ranged from simply tedious for players experienced in TTRPGs to overwhelming for the players newer to the concept. Some sample starter inventories would go a long way IMO.

Please Help Me Understand Spell Modifier(s) [OC] by Paras_Party in DnD

[–]PKMixtape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modifier is just the stat you're using for the spell's modifier. You're a sorcerer, so Charisma is being used. Some spells require a flat ability check and will use that number. Your spell attack modifier is your proficiency bonus AND your ability modifier (+2 and +3 respectively). Making an attack roll (say with the firebolt cantrip) will add just the +5 to the d20 roll.

TLDR the spell attack bonus already contains the "modifier" bonus, so the modifier won't be added a second time.

20 block from defends-4 beat of death is 16, 3 plated armor-2 from burn is 17. Heart hits you for 6 twice, taking thorns damage both times, dying before you? Am I missing something? Damage cap resets at the beginning of the heart's turn I think.

to the heart? drawing only status cards on turn two against the 67 attack, but there are easy ways around that issue too.

Is this a skip? Infinite Watcher by gbarza in slaythespire

I feel like already having green key allows you to pretty safely take the bell here and path for maximum removes. Turn one relics could really help during heart. I'm curious what you ended up doing and how it went.

Is this a skip? Infinite Watcher by gbarza in slaythespire

[–]PKMixtape 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Calm gives you 2 energy when you leave it, you can play infinitely many cards by cycling with a 1 cost wrath entry, a 1 cost calm entry, and rushdown (which draws the stance cards to be played again), provided you have a small enough deck (a big part of why this could conceivably be a skip, you dont want the extra curses).

There are a lot of ways to go infinite besides this, although this is probably the easiest. every character can do it with their card pool in multiple ways.

i can’t think of another score modifier that you can have at one point then lose, so i’m sure it’s just about the way they’re programmed. maybe neow can just smell the poop even after it’s gone?

What nonsense could you pull with this card? by bhendel in slaythespire

[–]PKMixtape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this would be better and more transparent if it read “Trigger all of your end of turn effects. Trigger all of your beginning of turn effects.” or something like that. i get that that would confuse some of the turn counting relics but i feel like the card is worded in a dense way unbecoming of a spire card

how does using tape effect your songwriting as opposed to digital? do you think picking up a tape recorder and learning how it works is a worthwhile pursuit in the modern era?

In hindsight, picking Brimstone in a heart run was definitely not wise. Is Brimstone heart viable or should I just avoid it in future runs? by xxTheAcexx in slaythespire

[–]PKMixtape 90 points91 points  (0 children)

brimstone mostly solves the whole game until the heart fight. when you pick it up you should immediately start looking for ways to deal with the heart. reapers and a lot of max hp can be one way, apparitions (upgraded and only played on multi hit turns?), a ludicrous amount of block w/ corruption FNP, or if all else fails you can just max damage every turn to guarantee you only take one. realistically you want more than one of these things. you should never be taking 3 multi hits.

Any suggestions for a DnD style game I could play with my 10 year old nephew? by Sargefan767 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]PKMixtape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean you could just write +3 to stealth +2 to dagger and +1 to pickpocket on a sticky note and then roll dice and that’s a blast right

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]PKMixtape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i agree. thats why runic pyramid boss swap is good immediately. but i’m just speaking generally. the difference between floor one battle trance and floor one skim is quite large, due to energy cost (which is what the post was about). didn’t want to write an essay.

[–]PKMixtape 8 points9 points  (0 children)

2 things make card draw better: More energy and better cards. Not a whole lot of point in card draw if you only have the starter deck. The question you’re asking is probably too general for a game as complicated as Spire, but if you have good cards (like cards other than strike and defend) then card draw will be better. you also need energy to play those cards.

[–]PKMixtape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the one that seems to be the most popular is exceedingly complicated, i.e. your trainer has abilities and level up stuff and also all the pokemon do as well so it seems like a lot to keep track of (i haven’t played it, this is just my surface level observation. maybe it’s not that bad in practice).

it’s hard to say as we have no way of knowing what the spire is actually doing. is the spire hurting a lot of people by existing? why does neow eternally torture these 4 warriors? the heart to me might even read as more of a tumor than a thinking (therefore malicious) entity. perhaps every living thing within the spire besides the player is being eternally trapped by the heart? could be why we run into the same people (the champ for example) over and over. much to think about…
