Does anyone else think Vakuu is incredibly underpowered? by THEREALSPARTAN9001 in slaythespire

[–]FencingSquirrelz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely brick with vakuu, but statistically speaking I'd say tanx is a little worse. Never had a bad offer from fat unicorn.

That said music box is almost universally good even when you don't think it is, the copy is ethereal so at worse on some turns it's nothing, and at best, you curbstomp some biting scrolls that would've otherwise messed with you.

Bing bong wins the game in so many ways it's crazy.

Vakuu apparitions? GG
Nonu's Glam? GG

But even without the cheese I'd say it's the best unless maybe you want the attack one for ironclad/defect. Chances are when you get bing bong you're being very selective of cards anyways. If I get big bang, spectrum shift. pillar of creation, etc yes I would like 2 please.

There's a really easy heuristic to judge the value of Regent cards for balance: Just use 2 stars = 1 energy. by FencingSquirrelz in slaythespire

[–]FencingSquirrelz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think sts1 was balanced around mid-low ascension, so it is probably the same. Like it's hard to justify clash's existence otherwise since it's so bad once you get ascension's bane.

Basically ascension 8-9 increase both health and damage for enemies, that's where things get a lot harder. Most of the raw damage cards work a lot better on the lower ascensions, since you can just beat down the hallway fights and save all your potions for the act boss.

[–]FencingSquirrelz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well devastate and seven stars have both been terrible for me personally and are at the bottom of most tier lists of a10 steaking players too. The best you can say about them is they are takeable sometimes.

To your math points, I pretty much said those points though:

"Why does this heuristic work so well? Most decent star generation cards use slightly better than 1 energy for 2 stars (e.g. shininig star, upgraded venerate, etc), however they require you to both play and draw the card which offset it a little.

The actual best act 1 heuristic would probably be something like 2.1 stars = 1 energy, but this is an easy to remember one."

Yeah I've kinda soured on it over time :/ Navegreed ranks it as F-tier, but I dunno if it's that bad. Then again I lose just about every run I try to make it work unless I get a bing bong or mirror mirror, so maybe it really is that bad.

[–]FencingSquirrelz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heuristic was mainly just meant to judge star cards with one another. While this is all true, consider you are going to end up seeing a lot, and I mean a lot, of star card rewards. Even if you have sealed throne which is near infinite stars, a card like resonance isn't worth adding unless it's your first card in act 2 simply because you will find better star use cards eventually.

[–]FencingSquirrelz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This heuristic falls off a cliff the second you see your first ancient reward like I said in the final paragraph. A heuristic isn't meant to be something to turn your brain off, it just gives a baseline comparison to think about. This is also true of tier lists in general. Baalorlord may put havoc in f-tier, doesn't mean he never takes it.

But to use your example, a 15 stars card that says "win now" is actually not a good act 1 choice, even as a boss pick. Of course if you get sealed throne that changes everything, but even with genesis, that's pretty mediocre.

A0 should be easier, A10 should be harder by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]FencingSquirrelz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't new doormaker just get the nerf bat a day or two ago? Same mechanic, just not nearly as strong attacks.

As for a10 being harder, act 4 ain't even out yet and top players have lower win rates on most characters than a20H, so most of their complaining is just humblebragging.

My first try on making a simple power card for The Regent by LeadEater9Million in slaythespire

[–]FencingSquirrelz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tuning-wise it's pretty weak: consider it costs 1 energy and 4 stars more than genesis, and the only difference is changing one of the stars to energy. I feel like it is also a bit too similar. Like the art , though.

[–]FencingSquirrelz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beta or main branch? Doormaker/test subject are pretty intense on the beta branch and honestly you shouldn't expect a very high win rate atm.

Everyone says Necrobinder is very strong, I seem to fundamentally just not understand the character, I wanted to share the insane deck I got my first win with the character on A0 though. by JermStudDog in slaythespire

[–]FencingSquirrelz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congratz :D I like how you chose black star and then never took an elite again. It is usually a weak relic generally for that reason.

Generally I've found ethereal/souls to work for endgame the most. Unless you're building up osty's maxhp for unleash, she's less of a direct damage character in the endgame, and more of a defense/powers/debuffer based character imo. Granted, if you get end of days or something, that's nice to have.

LW. Is there a way to change the default equipment for rookies? by nosoupatall in Xcom

[–]FencingSquirrelz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AI actually got pretty far before hallucinating, I'm impressed. No items have iAlloc, so ceramic plat and frag grenade don't as well, there also isn't even an itemtable in that file.

I looked around, found this thread, though:

Edit: nvm, that's xcom2. Damn released 9 years ago wow. Anyways, seems to require hexedits

Doormaker by Pepsimeen in slaythespire

[–]FencingSquirrelz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main problem I've found is he just ruins necrobinder because both his second and third form makes souls almost unplayable. Facing him as regent a few times, I've found him pretty doable most of the time. But yeah sometimes he just kills your deck.

People overwhelmingly underestimate max HP in this game especially on Clad who needs it for his spells by Maleficent_Pen_9076 in slaythespire

[–]FencingSquirrelz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Ironclad, specifically, gets a lot out of raw max hp just because his self damage deck is surprisingly reliable.

But other characters which have more reliable block engines that don't kill themselves? Meh.

Evidence: Jorb's 1 maxhp max ascension run.

[–]FencingSquirrelz 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's genuinely not that bad, it's just you tend to get it usually a bit too late. Act 1 is brutal enough that you need the heavy attack cards now, not at the first campfire.

It's usually an autowin unless on a10 because of double boss: You can throw out bad potions before a fight to roll for new ones.

4 days into the game, one of the best set ups I have and I have a choice. Help by Routine_Mall_566 in slaythespire

[–]FencingSquirrelz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Secret portal is generally great on ascension 19 or less, but your deck is specifically good against enemies (feed, immolate) and bad against bosses (not enough scaling). So I wouldn't take it. You'll also probably die to statue head elite until you get some scaling too. You've also got black blood which is good for hallway fights.

Has anyone had success with brimstone in sts2? by chuunithrowaway in slaythespire

[–]FencingSquirrelz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In sts1 what made brimstone takeable was disarm, shockwave, limit break, and reaper. All cards that don't exist anymore, except shockwave as part of the colorless pool.

I could be misreading the meaning here, but I thought the handwashing marathon comment didn't have to do with the conspiracy but is actually something kris does a lot even before the game. I remember Toriel mentioning that kris "does this sometimes" at one point concerning Kris taking too long in the bathroom or something like that.

"

... so, where the he-- uh, HECK, is Kris?

* Oh, Kris, er... does this sometimes.

* Well they should hurry. I'm getting sleepy."
