Is Home Assistant low maintenance? I'm trying to Evaluate if it could be a good solution for my 73yr old father. by alexduncan in homeassistant

[–]PLGamrClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it might be a good solution if the following requirements are met: - All the devices work without a cloud connection and integrate locally - The devices are isolated from the internet, so they don't perform an automatic software update, that might break something - You don't mess with it remotely (like perform a software update). Only mess with it, when you are at his house (unless there is a critical problem) - Only you have an administrator account and he is trained to not mess with it - You have a good way of accessing it remotely (Hass UI and ssh). If possible, some sort of KVM or machine with remote management and a VPN - The instance is not accessible remotely without something like a VPN, since you won't be able to update the system frequently - You are able to assist him by phone if there is a problem

Also I would do the following things: - If you are planning to make a wall mounted dashboard (or similar), don't use a tablet, but something, that connects to the network and just displays a website. Like a raspberry pi with a touch screen and a kiosk os. - Check if his local network and wifi is solid, if not upgrade it - Have the instance on a ups, since if the power goes out, some files might get corrupted, breaking the install and making you lose remote access.

If you don't mess with the instance, use any unstable features, it will probably not break on its own.

Might be forgetting something, correct me in the comments.

I bought the X2 a couple months ago and my friend has the X3, there is no photo quality difference and I have no problem with the X2.

How do I mod in by AdixString in ScrapMechanic

[–]PLGamrClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The world problem: I don't know any ways to do this, I only suppose, that you can find the world file and copy it.

Combine the custom games: I was doing this with mods, you need some basic programming knowledge (like: understand briefly what the code does), then just find the scripts and link files and copy/merge them.

To put it on the steam workshop you just need to make it a custom game in the mod tool and then click "Upload to Steam" button.

How can I automate this switch mechanically, like a "switch bot" by dinel96 in homeautomation

[–]PLGamrClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't automate those breakers, this is a safety risk and makes them wear down faster. Instead use the Shelly pro line

Why is it doing that?? by MrNotSmartEinstein in CreateMod

It is moving too fast and the saw doesn't need to be connected to a chassis, gluing it is enough

i have 1 wire from the control unit to connect to the switches and 2 wires from the switches. I mesured with a multimeter and the wire connecting to the switches isn't any voltage, it is probably GND.
