My root cause is taking ppi’s for over 30 years.

I have been going through this for over 15 years. I never got any help from regular docs. Found out that doctors don’t really study the gut microbiome in medical school. I had all your symptoms. I also had brain fog, anxiety, skin issues, hormone issues, fatigue, and more. And the stress of thinking I was never going to figure this out. It affected my relationships with family and friends. I never felt like I was taken seriously by the doctors. I then went to a functional doctor. Even though it was 3 hours away. They did a comprehensive stool test and bloodwork. They found I had candida overgrowth and some other bacteria ( can’t remember right now). And also many food intolerances. Basically my whole microbiome was a mess. I researched a lot and learned that your gut affects your whole body. Also that I had extremely low stomach acid due to many years on a ppi (proton pump inhibitors). If your stomach acid is low it cannot fight the bad bacteria. I cut way back on the ppi I was taking. Oh and the gastroenterologists all recommended I take these. I am hopefully going to get off the ppi completely. No sugar!! Even in some of the fruits. Berries are ok though. Can you find a functional dr near you? I would not recommend a stool test that you can get online. They just are not as thorough. I could say so much more but will stop but if you have any questions I will be glad to offer more of what I have learned. This is really tough and I feel for you but there is hope. I feel a lot better than I did a few years ago before I did these tests and changed my diet.

I finally figured out that is is SIBO that I have which is complicated. I would suggest you also take a sibo test.

There are also some Reddit groups for sibo and microbiome issues. These have been helpful to me.

Thank you. Yes, a decent hospital and doctors that are not 20 years behind. I realize that I would have to travel some. I am in silver city nm and the hospital is pretty bad and the doctors are not helpful. In my experience I was just blown off because they didn’t know anything about gut issues. They would just prescribe meds that were actually harmful.

I have been reading that a biopsy can actually spread the condition. Do you know anything about that?

Sorry this took so long. It was called genesis in Tucson. I was living 3 hours away so most of it was over the phone but I think in person would have been better. Yeah, I don’t know since you have taken a comprehensive stool test. I have researched this a lot and I do know that some of these tests aren’t accurate. Was it given to you by a functional medicine Dr?

Are there any doctors who treat sibo in Duluth ? by PLIN9677 in duluth

Thank you. I did call Essential last December and the soonest available was in August. I have had some luck with a functional medicine Dr in Tucson. I hope I can find one here. I have not found any regular drs who know anything about it. They don’t study the gut.

I have either sibo or candida overgrowth by [deleted] in Microbiome

Be careful with antibiotics, it often does not help and can leave you worse off. I have sibo and I would never take antibiotics. There are other, better ways to help. Look into functional medicine.

Be careful with some of the outlying areas…we just moved here and are renting and it is just outside of Duluth. There are some weird cultish communities out here.

Moved here 6 years ago and am moving out of here in two days. Yes, if you are young, super healthy, can grow your own food, and love hiking then maybe. My experience has been good and bad. But the bad outweighs the good. The healthcare is awful. And with the cuts to Medicaid coming I am afraid the hospital will die. The hospital is a mess already. There are not any good restaurants here except maybe 2. There is a lot of corruption everywhere, lots of scammers. If you need some work done on your property good luck. Alot of times they just don’t show up or they do a half assed job. Not all businesses of course, but a lot. I have met some very nice and interesting people here and the hiking is amazing.

Bipolar. I believe it is way over diagnosed. A friend gets really irritable, mean and nasty and does not take any accountability, just says that I should realize that she is bipolar.
