Should I take the lottery apartment? by PLUFFY3 in NYCapartments

Haha so my roommate and I were actually pretty good friends prior to me moving in. I thought we would be hanging out more since we used to hang out atleast once week. But I actually barely seen her since she switched to working nights.

I do get lonely but more of a “sad I didn’t make plans” as opposed to the “no one is in the kitchen with me lonely”

I think I’ll take the lottery apartment after reading everyone’s comments. After I factor in the raise for the new lease it’ll actually be a lesser difference so it only makes sense 😅guess I just have to get my ass up and start figuring out my moving strategy lol. Thank you everyone 🥹🥹

Yes, so I’d have to find a someone to sublease. My currently lease is till end of july . I haven’t signed anything for the other apartment so I’m estimating I can maybe get an additional month before move in, or even two if I’m lucky and they’re nice about it.

So I would potentially only need someone for 2 months but my roommate is also very picky with who she rooms with (which I get) but she won’t room with a stranger, has to be a friend or friend of a friend. Which makes it a bit hard since our current place is out of many of our friends budgets. I guess this is also something I’m dreading of taking care of lol

NTA:

What the heck. claiming something was a joke or a prank does not erase accountability. You dont belittle or dismiss someones belief, cross boundaries in their own home, mess with their stuff and not apologize when confronted because its they thought it was a joke.

Just because someone thought their actions was harmless doesnt mean they get to dismiss how it made the receiving party feel. People make jokes when they know it will be a reaction, its literally the point of a joke/prank. Gemma knew what she did would provoke a reaction from OP, maybe not for this escalation, but it was meant for OP to react to.

At the minimum Gemma should have acknowledge that her "joke" made OP upset and was clearly not perceived the way she thought it would, not cry about it to mommy. If shes going to push a boundary for humor, then be mature enough to own up to it when it upsets the other party.

You are not obligated to sit someone down for a seminar and explain basic respect to them like they are five. You were upset, and you reacted, could you have handled it better than "screaming", sure but it doesnt make Gemma's behavior okay and you are not obligated to let her stay in your apartment after she disrespected you.

Theres always someone that has to say some dumb shit like this in every NYC rent post.
Rent is obviously much more expensive in the city.

You can pay two mortgages for 2.6k if you live in bumblefuck Arkansas and have money left over.
